A bill that would codify medical marijuana dispensaries passed the Senate 29-20 last night.
The bill, SB 5073, also gives protections to marijuana growers and strengthens protections for patients and physicians who recommend pot.
Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, D-Spokane, and Sen. Michael Buamgartner, R-Spokane, both voted for the bill.
Sen. Jeff Baxter, R-Spokane Valley, voted against the bill. Baxter was recently appointed to replace Bob McCaslin, one of the longest serving state senators in Washington who left the Legislature due to illness.
The bill must now make its way through the House to the governor's desk.
