Defender: Harpham to plead to two charges, others dismissed

Posted on Tue, Sep 6, 2011 at 3:47 PM

Kevin Harpham is expected to plead guilty to two unspecified charges in return for having two others dismissed, his attorney tells The Inlander.

Federal defender Roger Peven says Harpham will not to go trial, and that he expects a judge to set a sentencing date at a hearing Wednesday. He would not comment as to Harpham's motivation for changing his plea.

Harpham — who has been accused of placing the bomb in downtown Spokane on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day — has reportedly been charged with committing a hate crime, unauthorized possession of an unregistered explosive device, using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
