First, a closing from this week’s Entree newsletter: Ugly Bettie’s will be no more, and new owner Jeremy Tangen has plans for a new food-and-beverages establishment. (Subscribe to the newsletter here.)

Tangen, a partner in a number of nightlife spots including the recently closed MarQuee Lounge, was in the liquor license applications not too long ago for an address on Grand that matched up with the former Savory — but this week the Spokesman reported that the old Savory spot will not become a new restaurant, but a headquarters for AAA.

Music and food: Tonight, pretty much right now, help out community food programs at Rumble on the Rooftop 2, a music benefit on the Saranac Public House rooftop for Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga University.

This week’s paper is devoted to outdoor eating, so don’t miss the features on destination dining, patios, campfires, picnics, barbecues and this summer’s food events.

As we mention in both this week’s news section and music section, it’s hot these days. So it’s the perfect time for a few ice cream updates:

The Apple Cup Crisp ice cream from Ferdinand’s in Pullman was selected to represent all of Washington state in a Food Network roundup of 50 ice cream treats for 50 states. Take that, Seattle. And the campus ice cream shop just finished their big renovation, too.

Brain Freeze Creamery is experimenting with non-dairy options. The very first tub, vegan with a coconut base, is available at The Scoop.
