Vote now to help a deserving local nonprofit win $25,000

Five regional nonprofits serving low-income and homeless families in Eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana are in the running for a $25,000 donation. With your vote on Facebook, you can help your favorite win.

The charity arm of Windermere Real Estate is giving away a total $125,000 to five nonprofits across the Western U.S. Among the competitors is Family Promise of Spokane, a little-known coalition of 31 interfaith churches and more than 1,000 volunteers. Together, they provide food, housing and job training to about 20 homeless families a year. Over the last five years, Family Promise has helped more than 80 homeless families achieve self-sufficiency. With more money, Ron Hardin, the board president, says his organization could add more families to the program and hire a full-time case manager. For perspective, the nonprofit's annual budget is only $170,000.

"It would be a game changer for us," Hardin says. "This $25,000 infusion into our budget will just mean all of kinds of things that we can do more to resolve issues of homelessness in Spokane County."

Also in the running are St. Vincent De Paul Transitional Housing in Coeur d'Alene, Wenatchee Valley YMCA  and Benton-Franklin Community Action Committee Housing Services  in Tri-Cities.

The nonprofit with the most Facebook votes takes home the cash prize. The contest ends today at 5 pm, so cast your vote on Windermere Real Estate's Facebook page now!
