THIS WEEKEND IN MUSIC: Gleason Fest, Octapalooza

Posted By on Fri, Aug 22, 2014 at 9:32 PM

SATURDAY

Tomorrow, get ready for Gleason Fest, the only downtown block party that happens all year. The $20 event raises money to fight ALS. The festival starts at 2 pm and is all ages. Read our preview for the event here and listen to Steve Gleason’s summer 2014 playlist right here, the Spokane native has stellar taste in music. The band we’re most excited to see is none other than Willie Nelson’s son’s band Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real (watch below).

Octapalooza is not a house party. It’s a festival thrown in local musician Levi Steverding’s half-acre backyard in Hillyard (4811 N. Myrtle St.), so don’t get confused. Back for the fifth time, the event includes the biggest lineup yet with Norma Jean, Night Verses, FAUS, Jedediah the Pilot, Civilized Animal, the Revision Scheme, Pine League and For the Likes of You. Also important to note: there will be a giant Jenga game set up for the public, along with 5-gallon beer pong, a life-size foosball court and a chance to get a $5 haircut from a local barber. Beer will be provided by River City Brewing, for those who are into that sort of thing. 21+ only and is $18 at the door.

SUNDAY

Not to be confused with Rogue Wave, the Minneapolis-based indie/folk/rock band Rogue Valley plays the Big Dipper Sunday evening at 7 pm. The all-ages show is $7 and Bard opens. A wonderful show to start your week off right.
