THIS WEEKEND IN MUSIC: Sleater-Kinney tour kick-off, Bullets or Balloons CD release and more

Posted By on Fri, Feb 6, 2015 at 1:11 PM

Way up on the South Hill, Revel 77 usually revels in serving locally ground coffee. Tonight, local rockers BBBBandits, Stucco and Vibration add some live music to that equation with a show that begins at 7 pm. Get there early to a snag a prime seat for this show.

It’s another KYRS Benefit happening tonight at the Big Dipper and with Bellingham’s own folk rockers Wild Rabbit headlining the event, that's something you can feel good about. The Brown’s Mountain Boys open for the band. The all-ages show is $10 at the door.

Bullets or Balloons are a punk-rock three-piece from Spokane Valley, Coeur d’Alene and Olympia. But when they come together it’s a hell of a loud, sweaty, fun time. They release their sophomore CD Lifestyle Toxins Saturday at the Big Dipper. Tickets are $5 the day of for the all-ages show. Blackwater Prophet and the Bight open the event.

Kris Orlowski’s most recent album was produced by Damien Jurado, so you know what type of music this is already, and that’s not a bad thing. Saturday, the singer-songwriter and his band play the Bartlett along with the help of Hollow Wood and Runaway Symphony. That show begins at 8 pm and is all-ages.

Peter Rivera has still got that rock 'n' roll feeling down. The original lead singer and drummer of Motown's Rare Earth, who relocated to Spokane, has recorded a free-spirited disc, It Is What It Is, chock-full of heartfelt, crisp, swingin' tracks. These are songs about dancing, romance and living fully, but also about the state of politics in this country. Chateau Rive hosts the album release party Saturday at 8 pm.

It’s sold out, but obviously we have to mention this show — it’s going to be the biggest all year. PNW punk rockers Sleater-Kinney are freaking kicking off their first tour in 10 years at the Knitting Factory. New to the band? Here’s your course description for the most anticipated music reunion of the year. We’re excited to see you out at this one; that is, if you scored tickets.
