Re: “Facing History

We're not talking about cheating - or even "shabby" we're talking about turning a woman - who is ill - out in the streets and covering it up. And then touting him as a hero. Laying your claim on a piece of land and building some stuff on it - that happens to turn into a city does not a hero make - we need to look at the bodies buried under the foundations to see the whole picture. Frankly, I don't want my kids and grandkids looking up to a man like that. It makes us hypocrites. We live in a new age - we need new heroes - heroines. We need to support the standards that define us as a civilized society.

Re: “Peace, Justice and Fry Sauce

It is an understandable impulse to shrug and write it off as kids being young and stupid. That impulse is significantly less compelling if/when you see kids like that in the process of hitting rock bottom or trying to recover after hitting rock bottom.

Re: “Trapped by Debt

Actually Tiredofpayingyourbills, most baby boomers tended to work one job most of their lives. It was called a "career," which was of course not "high paying" at first, but was still a track that could be started rather soon after undergraduate because the previous generation retired at a standard age and made room. They were able to go to college for cheap (UC Berkeley was free until the 70s), and their lives were MASSIVELY more subsidized by the federal government than ours ever will be, ESPECIALLY if they were involved in the war (GI Bill? Ever heard of it?). Please do try and step out of your own narrow perspective and recognize that it's not the 1950s anymore, and that it's a bit hard to plan for the worst recession in a century while your tuition jumps 35-40% in under 5 years. We're doing the best we can, in spite of ridiculously judgmental people like you.

Re: “Trapped by Debt

Hey Batman, NEWSFLASH!!! Baby boomers worked two jobs MOST OF THEIR LIVES!!!! They lived within their means, SAVED for anything they wanted and DIDN"T expect a HIGH PAYING job right out of college. You don't want to be seen as entitled, but your whole WHINING rant was just that. Pull yourself up by your boot straps, work two jobs for the next 10-15 years and pay off the loans that were given to you in good faith. NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING!!!!!!!

Re: “Trapped by Debt

I'm sick and tired of hearing people especially the baby boomers tell us how lazy we are. We are the generation who works a full time job then has to get another job just to get by. We are the generation to come home too exhausted to have hobbies or families. We are the generation to take night classes for our second degree after working a 10 hour shift. We are the generation to fall behind the rest of the world because we work in high school to pay for college and we work in college to pay the interest on our loans instead of spending more time on our actual education. So please tell us we're lazy when you worked one part time summer job to pay your tuition for the year. Our summer job barely covers ONE class ONE quarter. Tell us how hard it was to ask your racist boss for a promotion when the only other qualified candidate was a black man or a woman. We're losing because YOUR generation screwed us over. YOU started a crap ton of wars, pissed off the entire world with your arrogance and ignorance, YOU polluted the environment for quick money, YOU filled your faces with so much food you burst at the seams, You got us addicted to fast food and soda while we were young, YOU put us in front of the TV for hours everyday because YOU "needed alone time", YOU told us not to worry that YOU would give us good jobs to pay off our loan debt in a couple years, YOU gave us credit cards but never taught us about money, YOU bought houses YOU couldn't afford, and YOU flew too close to the sun then forced us to burn with you. The American Dream for us is a fevered prayer that Gen Y isn't the one who has to watch the world end while their parents watch Fox News and blame everything on the entitlement of their children.

That sounded harsh but I wish I would hear more, "I'm sorry, we thought what we were doing was right. Hindsight is 20/20 heh? It's not to late I can help you fix this. We still have time." And less, "Oh you have student loan debt? Clearly your an idiot, Why didn't you go to a cheap college with no credibility to get your teaching degree? So when you graduate you can work at the local Dennys while your peers get jobs over you because of the well known university they went to. But hey at least you won't have any student loan debt, either way don't expect a tip from me because if you weren't so lazy you would go to a good school and get a good education."

Re: “Trapped by Debt

Wow! Good for you guys for getting such great jobs and getting your loans paid off!! What if I told you that my husband graduated from St Mary's College with his MBA, what if I also told you he has worked his A-- off to create a good life for his family, he also has a great job/career and won't see an end in sight on his student loan payments for many years to come. Is he feeling sorry for himself, no but if you think that it's just about getting the right degree and the right job you are living in a dream world. It also has to do with cost of living so maybe you should break out of the Northwest mode and try out California and see where that great degree and great job get you. I can already tell you firsthand it's not a cake walk. So Goodluck with that!

Re: “Trapped by Debt

I cannot feel sorry for someone who took out too much in student loans. You can go to community college for almost nothing for the first two years; then a state school for a reasonable amount for the remaining two years. YOU DO NOT have to go to crazy expensive schools like Gonzaga.

This is just another example of a generation who wants EVERYONE BUT THEMSELVES to pay for the education, their illegitimate children, etc. Grow up. DONT SPEND MONEY YOU DO NOT HAVE

Re: “Art Before Everything

"Gendron (pronounced "zhan-dreau") is a French-Canadian name, forced on his family centuries ago when European fur trappers from the Hudson's Bay Company erected a trading post at Fort Colville in Kettle Falls." Forced? Who forced anyone to take a name? Where is your proof? In fact what you've done is taken a great article about an interesting artist and inserted a nonsensical, biased, ad-lib editorial with no basis in reality.
