Re: “Shiny New Debt Trap?

Does anyone seriously believe that forcing payday lenders out of the neighborhoods of the people who use them will prevent the borrowers from using them? All it will do is force the mostly unlicensed uninsured drivers into their old , highly polluting vehicles to go where they can get the payday loan. The only real consequence of that prohibition will to put more pollutants in the air. Politicians are such morons, and clearly believe the electorate is, as well. http://speedyloansearch.com/payday-loans/

Re: “The Remake

I have been to the Globe many times in the past and now since it has reopened my husband and I have been there several times. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is welcoming. As for Supercross, the bartenders do not have it on, do not know what it is, and we have had to ask everytime to have the channel changed to Supercross.

Community Bill of Rights = 'bad white man' edicts. This should be crushed as whackjob garbage.

'New worker's rights initiative' = Marxist garbage. Marxism doesn't work. It has been proven.

Re: “Audition to be a Z Nation zombie Saturday

Only...it is not a Walking Dead spin-off. It has nothing to do with the Walking Dead franchise. The only common thread is it has zombies in it.

Re: “Defending the System

You're comments are totally misplaced in that you are comparing apples to oranges. There are literally thousands of articles about victims, but this article is not one of them; this article is about the defense attorneys who represent an accused's constitutional right to have representation of those rights. It is not about celebrating criminals and in fact, I don't remember ever reading an article with the purpose of celebrating criminals.

Even so, what in this world makes you believe defense attorneys don't have concern for the victim? Most victims are extremely thankful for the defense attorney, as it is s/he who is in the best position to ensure the victim and/or their family's receive closure. The author specifically stated:

"These public defenders are not bleeding-heart liberals. They don't condone stealing, wife-beating, murder or any of the crimes that someone charged before the court may face. The public defenders are there to assure that the constitutional right to a fair trial is available to everyone, regardless of financial status."

Do you realize that if we don't have public defenders innocent people are imprisoned while true perpetrators run at large to attack again? I don't know where you come off equating the representation of someone's constitutional rights with "adoration" of his person and his crime, but it is extremely offensive. So while you are certainly entitled to grieve your fathers horrible death, you are in no position to state a criminal's lawyer is an accomplice to his crime.

Here are some recent victim based articles you may be interested in reading:

Re: “New Blood

Of course "parts of Spokane already look like Detroit". They are infested with democrats. It was absolutely "a bunch of democrats" who led the economic downturn. Democrats controlled congress and the senate and they fought tooth and nail to stop any reforms of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac. They created a system that collapsed when left unchecked. Obamacare is a similar system, only this time they will destroy healthcare and not the housing industry.

Real employers are driven away by HIGH taxes and a HIGH work force. Crappy roads and crumbling infrastructure go a long way to keeping industry out of the area. Crime is a problem because leftists refuse to jail and then imprison criminals. If you tire of crime, lock the criminals up once and for all. Yet leftists constantly demand we set them free to prowl the streets ASAP.

If you dislike the sewer you live in stop working so hard to create a sewer. If you worked as hard to fix the stupidity of the left as you did to blame others for it's failures, we would live in the Utopia you are trying to create.

Re: “Defending the System

What about the victims? While every nearby progressive runs to the defense of the next cop killer or child rapist I wonder if they ever thought about the victims of their beloved charges? It is touching to see the local leftist celebrate when a rapist is set free to rape again or a local scumbag with 31 felony convictions destroys a local bakery. These people are after all, just democrats looking for a little support from the taxpayer for their ills.

But my concern is for the victim of the robbery, the child who is assaulted by the molester our local progressive are hugging and clapping on the back. I worry about my family as they are locking every door and window in hopes of keeping the democrats from helping themselves to my hard earned property.

I'm sure some leftist lawyer was hugging the 8-time convicted drunk driver who killed my Dad and telling the loser how he was a victim of a terrible disease. All the time failing to explain how alcoholism causes driving without a license. Never mind that he had killed before and left a thirty year trail of carnage in his wake. He was and is still an adored victim of something for the leftist community.

I have a hard time celebrating the criminal and his lackey lawyers after being a victim of their crimes. Why is their NEVER an article in the rag about the thousands of Spokanites harmed by the criminals it celebrates every week?

Re: “Those Teeth Are Sharp

I wonder why the left adores Clinton this time, when they threw her under the bus eight years ago? She is the same criminal she was then, she still uses any government office for her own personal enrichment and gain. She is as corrupt as any politician in the last two centuries. She lies constantly, destroys records, hides emails and leave her ambassadors to be anally raped to death in mid-eastern countries. Her whore-mongering husband will be back at it full time in the Offal office.

The racist left will be destroying a Cuban American for daring to believe in God and a balanced budget. I am willing to bet, Ted Cruz has a college transcript, unlike some other Ivy League president.

Re: “Those Teeth Are Sharp

I'd like to see Elizabeth Warren. Although it seems we put too much weight on the presidency. The title is the target for national outrage no matter whose in office. Easier to but blame on whatever someone is unhappy about, on one person. Of course the president is important, but it's electing Congress we should use our brains for.

Re: “Nudists express concerns about bikini barista initiative

I wonder if the Islamic countries had a similar problem back in the day, regulated that a certain amount of female flesh had to be covered and it just slid into the habib wearing culture that distrusts the ability of its men not to attack a woman with lust if he can see more than their eyes? That's the trouble with morality laws: any minority can push for THEIR morals to be the ONLY valid ones, regardless how anyone else wants to live. Shame on these women for attempting to push their personal preferences onto everyone else by making it a law. Maybe I should go door to door to get the city council to broadly ratify my personal preferences by saying it only applies to some distasteful minority group. Worked for the Nazi's didn't it?

Re: “Washington fire chiefs to railroad company: We want more info on oil trains

As always it is heartening to see how first responders rise to the occasion to protect us all. if only such heroism rubbed off just a little on the railroad industry.
The first duty of government is to protect citizens, not shareholders.
The rail industry takes advantage of lax regulators, pro-business governments, frail labor unions, and our desire for oil independence to roll the dice on safety.
They run 150 ton tank cars on 8000 foot trains with skeletal crews, well dictated by the profit motive.
An alliance of railway workers, environmentalists, and blast zone citizens can force a safer method of transporting crude oil.
Begin by signing the linked petition asking the Federal Railroad Administration to enforce railroad health and safety rules.

Re: “Those Teeth Are Sharp

Hillary will be mollycoddled by a fawning press corps and any Republican--especially the conservative ones--will be personally attacked and demagogued relentlessly. Call me an optimist, but the majority of likely voters will recognize the attempt to fix the race. Hillary is less personable than Bill, and the kid glove treatment will backfire because it will reinforce the perception that she sees herself as entitled and above the rules that lesser people must follow.

Re: “A County Ombudsman?

The important thing to remember is the City OPO...does NOT have independent investigative authority by any stretch of the imagination based on the Guild contract negotiated by Frank Straub and David Condon. They may however have audit authority allowing them to audit various aspects of the SPD...we shall see.

It is important to also keep in mind that the "body camera legislation" is a law enforcement backed bill that will prohibit public disclosure of video in most cases and also has wiretap language which if passed would allow LEOs to intercept private communications with out being a party to the communication for the first time EVER in the State of Washington. The bill also does not contain the "no other available investigative method" clause currently in RCW 9.73.

I believe the "body camera legislation" is back in rules for a second reading...there is a good likelihood the bill will not pass which will mean that SPD and the SCSO will use the AG's opinion regarding the release of video which will allow nearly all of the video to be withheld from the public as they will need to follow the exceptions to the Public Records Act.

As the Sheriff, Straub, Condon, and Mielke know full well the Citizens Commission overseeing Seattle PD has recommended Seattle PD NOT go ahead with body cameras until proper legislation is passed...something that might be unlikely at this point.

As far as the SPD is concerned it is important to understand the contract negotiated by Frank Straub with the Police Guild gives the Guild complete control of body cameras and prohibits independent investigations by the OPO.
