Re: “The Hateful Eight

Another Tarantino comedy... cursing, killing, beautiful cinematography, crispy dialog and fun to watch acting by all.

Re: “Kingsman: The Secret Service

Raunchy, vulgar, full of swearing and lots of horrible violence blowing peoples heads off. Even a scene suggesting and leading up to anal intercourse. And it would not be complete without a wife beater scene or two.

No not see this movie if you are a family that cares about morals and ethics.

Disgusting waste of money and time.

Re: “WSU student found dead, Wiltjer finds NBA home and morning headlines

There was and still is a high volume of purchasers of HDTV's since the primary discharge in 1998. The main issue was there wasn't a match for it's quality in circle. Utilizing the HD's new clarity they required something that would compliment yet make HD to the following stride. Also they required something that was moderate that would have the capacity to handle playing HD content. In this way went along the idea for the DVR-blu, soon after instituted blu-beam.

Re: “We Shall Overcome

Geeeeeez McKay, could you possibly give worse election advice?

TRUMP is a flawed man; there is no doubt of this. Hillary however is a proven liar and has used her high office for personal and political gain. She exposed the most secure communication system on the planet to independent hackers and foreign nations. Hillary the DNC and the White house have been linked to goon squads, sent to disrupt TRUMP rallies.

This is not a matter of opinion., McKay. These are well established and verified facts.

Assuming you paid any attention to history in your education, do you recall how the worst despots in history rose to power.?

They all were noted for lying, and braking laws others for which others would be jailed. The all used goon squads.

Sound familiar?

The first ones they crush after the seize power are their opposition; then they come after the useful idiots, followed by anyone and anything they see as a threat to their power.

Hillary is factually the worst, most corrupt person ever to seek the office of President of the United States from a major party. Your Progressive Voters Guide (PVG) recommends her.

The PVG then proceeds to endorse some of worst initiatives, propositions and measures EVER to grace a Spokane ballot.

The STA Prop 1 is clearly a 200 million dollar boondoggle this community does not need. We can emulate ANY aspect of the proposal with current equipment.

STA ridership in 2015 has fallen of by 4%; if they didn't GIVE away rides for free to EWU students, STA numbers would be even lower in 2016.

WHY SPEND THE 200 million dollars on a system that is losing riders despite the hundreds of millions of dollars already spent?

I'd rather have the potholes filled and the streets and bridges repaired. We have some of the worst streets in the nation according to a recent national survey. IDAHO has some of the best. They have a much lower sales and fuel tax.

IDAHO should not have better infrastructure maintenance than WA considering the size and potential of their economy versus ours.

As for candidates, the PVG is nothing but straight ticket endorsement of DEMOCRATS; regardless of how inept of under skilled for the office.

There is no reasoning or comparison of credentials for each seek a specific elected office.

Case in point.

In the WA 6th Legislative district, the two Democrats vying for the representative seats are far less skilled and credentialed than their opponents who happen to be Republicans.

Case in point.

In the Governors race, Jay Inslee, who is directly responsible for neglecting a known problem with the prison release computer system for three years; or at least until a Spokane kid got killed by a felon who SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RELEASED; saved for the flawed, aforementioned system.

Jay is fast to take credit for the reduction in WA college tuition; something he really had nothing to do with. It was an idea of others.

Are you paying attention McKay???????

Did you see the GOV debates?

Jay was a mistake and a loser...and he should retire to private life.

Considering the aforementioned awful recommendations from your Progressive Voters Guide, why should we trust ANY recommendation from that apparently politically ignorant group, or you?

Gary Johnson is on the ballot in all 50 states. The guy has integrity, his vision is maximum freedom with limited government. He doesn't ply you with cheap slogans or lie to your face; he's THE candidate with integrity.

You can vote out of fear and continue getting government run on fear and crisis; or you can vote out of principle and get government by principles.

Re: “'Trust But Don't Verify'

Buccifer3.0, not to say that you don't have a valid point, but, this is Stevens Co. Many of the people here have no idea of what goes on because it is always kept quiet, the voters are the ones that believe what they see, but don't get out much. The people who stand up for them selves are made to be public nuisance and criminal therefore unable to vote. I turned 41 the other day and this is the second year I have been able to vote ever. I moved to the area when I was 17, have seen close friends die from colville police ten miles out of town and never been investigated, I have personally been handcuffed with my feet uphill, cops knees on my shoulders, head under water, I had resisted, but was more than co-operative when I was being told that I would be shot and had a.45 pointing directly at my face. I let the officer cuff me and was thrown down into the rock along the railroad tracks, feet to the tracks head under water, the guy jumped on my chest and held my head under, I thought I was done and I saw a county officer running up and the city officer stood up, probably saved my life just because they were not both city cops. A little bit off track but that is how I see the city of Colville police department, especially when the officer who did that is still on the force, only with more power now.

Re: “Defending North Idaho

North Washington is a lot like North Idaho but just doesn't ring with the same jingoistic concerns of elitist morons. To me this column was written by some metropolitan dandy that probably knows next to nothing about the area that can't be found stuck on a cork board at the newest wine bar opening in Sandpoint. I like N Idaho. But then, I know north idaho. It does not need to be redeemed to the people that live there, only to those that have the misfortune of rubbing elbows with jerks in tweed jackets with elbow pads and having to explain to them that they are not riff-raff even though they have to exclaim thier origins as "North Idaho". Really, the people that have anxiety about their N. Idaho identity aren't really from N Idaho to begin with.

Let me close with what Edward Said said of his own experiences having to adopt a "hometown" so-to-speak:
exile is strangely compelling to think about but terrible to experience. It is the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the self and its true home: its essential sadness can never be surmounted. And while it is true that literature and history contain heroic, romantic, glorious, even triumphant episodes in an exiles life, these are no more than efforts meant to overcome the crippling sorrow of estrangement.

Home is something you love. Not something you defend. So to the author I say: adopt a new hometown that you don't have to defend and then never come "home" again. Because to you home isn't what it is for the people that are already there and are willing to accept it as it is or make it better. You? You left! Good riddance.

Re: “Accidents All Over

When I read this column it is hard to think which is more irritating, this sophists words or his ugly mug and that goofy beard?

Anyone that doesn't see politics in this country as an act of self-defense of the individual against the machinations from upon the ivory tower this screed could not be a better emblem. Mr NeckBeard thinks that McMorris is a failure and a tool. Frankly, you will not here me saying otherwise. She is an even bigger tool than the George "term limits" Nethercutt and his bullshlt. However, the ego usually drives the man and in this case there is no exception. He thinks that McMorris just hasn't "done the right things". Did you hear that people of her district? She isn't doing the right things. Never mind that nearly everything that can be done is but another pound of flesh from you and I and that these people are perched upon a power that could legislate the color your underwear or outlaw certain flavors of Jolly Ranchers, is this not THE concern? The power?!?!?!?! Rather then say how that power is expressed let us first look to the power. And in that case I think Mr NeckBeard and Cathy would wholly agree. I am wrong; politicians would never make such ingresses into the public's liberty. Except that they do up to and including declaring the right to hold ANY american without charge and in secret by the military. Mr NeckBeard and Cathy would only argue on the degree of this violation. Cathy would say that it is necessary for security and Mr NeckBeard would call this an "abuse" of power. But people, that is just two hairdos arguing over the fact that they agree. The question is never why we stand for a government that has mantles of power subject to the abuse of the worst people in our society--the ones elected. No, that is never the question. The question for the people is always the degree to which they are willing to prostrate themselves to this abuse. If you read the pre-amble to the constitution or the preamble to the bill of rights or the declaration of independence itself one thing is clear. The government is not the place in our society where we figure out how it is to be ordered. Society--a free society--orders itself and needs no administration. So let these two communists be who they are...terrible people. And just don't vote. Revoke your consent from this government and then laugh at it when it takes itself seriously. Laugh at it until there is nothing left! You can either laugh now while watching it fall like an iron curtain or you will cry when your reality crashes down around you. When the USSR collapsed millions died in the chaos. I can only hope that when our evil empire falls the people will suffer less. And there is hope. There will be no "competing super power" to wranle with our internal affairs and ensure that we suffer to our maximum potential.

But in either case I like to hedge my bets and so I close with this: Hail Clinton! Peace be upon her name. Hail Trump. Peace be upon his name. Amen.

Re: “On the Road: The Story of Jimi Snakeskin

Terrible. This Salsbury guy has no style at all. Which makes sense. He is a government bureaucrat. It is hard to be creative when ones life has been thrown away supporting worthless institutions. Indeed, if one comes to the end of a long career of that nature can it be said that they were ever alive at all? Or just living in this world as an automaton. A husk that was absent the day souls were passed out. The writer breed contempt and yet he is clearly ill-prepared to go beyond anything but a matter of fact and simplistic narrative using banal words and metaphors that are a better fit for Jim Davis and his Garfield than to a reader that is trying to feel something. This? It made me feel dead inside. It made me feel like being human wasn't worth it. It made me despise things I love and then love when the onslaught unto my mind had ceased and the final sentence in this coffin and been thoroughly nailed down. I only endure now, at this page, to see for myself that I thus still live on and that the scornful misery of being exposed to such ill-formed talent did not end my being but only made me feel like it had.

Re: “Resource Management

What a terrible story. This is the best? The best?!?!?!?!?!?! Pathetic. This Tom character has spent a lifetime sponging off the state in a capacity that accentuates his punitive caste. Essentially, the face of evil. Indeed, and we can all come together to enjoy the irony of the fact that he is the author of this very wretched work. His style? One word, jarrin! As in, it does not flow. People that are poor writers but have high opinion of themselves tend to suffer from this habit. They know many words and feel many--dull--things. And so when one that lacks a creative spirit combines the know-how with a righteous will but a soulless mind we are left with this slop. I can imagine the writing process that produces this wretch of a work to be similar to vacuuming a floor and then using the vacuums contents to slowly spill the innards onto a blank page until it is full. Sure;y, this Tom person is not entirely a fool. Foolish enough not to realize his poor talent and yet no foolish enough not to be able to spill the blather on the page. Really, it is authors like this, and too works like this, that have killed the love of reading in contemporary America. For the consumer of the written word one can find all the pleasure of reading words in sentences and yet all the frustration of have conceived what's written in vain because it is tepid and moribund. It as if a great work can live and then it can die and decompose. This is what would left over: decomposition....and it stinks!

Thank you for your thoughtful article. I am a volunteer for Joe Pakootas. I continue to be impressed with his hard work running for Congress. He is sincere and knowledgeable about the issues. CMR is out of touch with Eastern Washington and Congress in general is ineffective. We need to get Joe elected and bring about change to our region and our country. And thank you for putting the Democrats' feet to the fire. They have done next to nothing to support and help him. I am very disappointed to watch the local party turn their back on him. He has an excellent change at getting elected and they could have done more to make sure it happens.

As much as I think there are a lot of good people up there, there is one force going against this getting any better: The American Redoubt.

It is becoming a mecca for survivalists, and a lot of them tend to build on the reputation that you write about.

Sandpoint was the author's "adopted" hometown, and he no longer lives there. He certainly has the right to comment about whatever interests him, but he should reconsider his use of the term "carpetbagger." Glass houses, etc.

Re: “'Trust But Don't Verify'

Have video to post if can figure out how of local officer (very recent) abusing his authority in an official civil call show threaten the parent and child in arms with loaded firearm until parent had to scream for help and witnesses started recording after all attempt to come to parents assistance was harshly denied tube officer lied to supervising officer in front of two other officer and supported by them with all present seeing the wrongs committed the other offices refused doing their official duty to stop this officer from his blatant malicious attack on citizen well within rights. Stating "not our call." and just allowed the continue abuse of both the child and parent. This is not only morally wrong but legally very clear violation of many of the citizens rights and liberties according to the laws they are sworn to enforce and follow. To unlawfully arrest maliciously prosecute and steal a safe baby from a validly concerned parent with no legal order standing and arrest parent on trumped up charges just on personal bias with no investigation or care for child or parent. THE OFFICER EVEN SAYS THE WORDS " I DINT GIVE A F%$# ABOUT HER FEELINGS OR YOURS TO PARENT AND CHILD AFTER PARENTS PLEA FOR THE LOADED FIREARM NOT POINTED AT AM UNARMED PARENT HOLDING THE CHILD! This good old boy backing is still rampant all through the twisted system of Stevens county. The using threats of arrest, malicious prosecution, malicious use of child protection services, or shot as the kid shot in his bed at benny's colville inn. Then his young lifeless body thrown in the bathtub before investigators arrive "so could save the mattress " before investigators show. From witnesses there at time...the man on the house boat shot in front of his child the man in fruitland shot in back and killed with no weapon present... The lack of justice, accountability, transparency and a blatant disregard for the laws they are paid to not only abide by, enforce, but are to be held to a drastically higher, not lower, level of accountability. This good old boy backing is still rampant all through the workeres of this county threats of arrest , assault humiliation or child protection services. The police of Stevens county seem more of a terrorist group than a civil service organization to serve and protect the citizens of this great beautiful county we are blessed to live in.
