Re: “Those Teeth Are Sharp

Hillary will be mollycoddled by a fawning press corps and any Republican--especially the conservative ones--will be personally attacked and demagogued relentlessly. Call me an optimist, but the majority of likely voters will recognize the attempt to fix the race. Hillary is less personable than Bill, and the kid glove treatment will backfire because it will reinforce the perception that she sees herself as entitled and above the rules that lesser people must follow.

Re: “Those Teeth Are Sharp

Gee whiz Tom, we sure have a lot of news and opinion from Idaho in this week's edition. Does your paper really have to cater to Idaho so much? Your readership must almost certainly be overwhelmingly from Spokane County. I don't mind an occasional story about a music thing or some monumental story in Idaho, but it just seems like in recent months you have gone way overboard on Idaho coverage.

Dear Inlander..When are you going to dump this Guy. His consistent Left wing tirades are becoming unbearable and incoherent.

Re: “Spokane Shock

Great essay, Mariah. I didn't expect to fall in love with this city, but I fell in love upon my first Bloomsday experience and now I know it's my forever home.

Q: What's a sassy little city like you doing way out here in the boondocks?
A: knocking your socks off.

Re: “Spokane Shock

It is important for all of us to think about what kind of city we want Spokane to become and then figure out how to be part of that. Thank you, Mariah!

Re: “A Woman's Worth

Wow. Rachel, ever hear of personal responsibility? "Blame the white man" excuses, after blacks are statistically the most racist, violent, and parasitic ethnicity in America 50+ years after the Civil Rights Movement makes your argument totally absurd.

Sheesh.

Re: “Best Of Behind the Scenes

Some of the food/beverage advertisements leave me at a loss for their efforts to attract customers I doubt the sincerity of restaurant and bar owners who think a website site adress and their neighborhood location is a sufficient address for their location. Your advertisements are so poorly written that, by omission, they warn potential customers that the service and prices may be as "obscure" as their address. I truly appreciate these subtle warning from businesses not seeking my patronage.

Re: “Give Him a Talk Show

To previous commenters- I am afraid that capitalism is a little more complex than somebody selling something, and attacking Hedges's sale of books rather than critiquing his worldview or theses amounts to a cheap and ill thought-out ad-hominem attack. This article is weak and as another commented, Bob doesn't dispute any of Hedges's critique, just that it comes across as something that poor Bob can't believe! While I admire a local reporter, an unknown name, trying to tackle an intellectual giant, simply not being able to wrap your mind around analysis is not really a point of criticism for any but oneself. Sounds similar to Fagan's rejection of climate change. Zzzzzzzzz

Re: “Building Up Trust

There exists no trust from the Inland Empire's Military Veterans in the the Veterans Administration. The hospital is "operating" six doctors short in an ill-designed building which offers no comfort to patients. Beside the doctor situation, the E.R. is no longer open 24 hrs/day. Veterans wait between appointments in our cars as there is no wait area in the hospital.

Your tax dollars have been "spent" on an area fence and an imaging suite. Nothing for Veteran comfort. The Hospital administration door is locked at all times. The patient advocate does not return messages. The doctors and staff are great - what is left of them - we honor their service.

Thank you civilians for your efforts to assist us by writing your elected representatives about our plight.

In reality, Don't attempt to thank me for my Military Service. You haven't earned the right.

Re: “Give Him a Talk Show

Interesting that in all the inches afforded him in his column about Chris Hedges’ (packed house) appearance in Spokane, wherein he dismissed most of what Hedges said, he didn’t actually refute any of it. In fact, he ended by saying ”…Hedges kind of nailed it there…”

It appears to me that Prof. Herold does not read beyond his comfort level: New York Times, perhaps The Nation, though even a close read of The Nation would have shown him that all Hedges talked about is very real. There are many more sources of information from alternative media, available with a click of the mouse: Truthdig, Truthout, Democracy Now, even occasionally Huffington Post, and so much more.

And a quickie about Herold’s praise for Hillary Clinton, who receives much of Hedges’ ire along with old Bill: yes, she does say, unlike Republicans, “inequality is the greatest economic challenge we face.” But she works hard to be sure that inequality continues its staggering increase. Hedges directs folks to watch what people DO, not what they say, and to find our own ways to make change.

Re: “Give Him a Talk Show

We live and must survive in a capitalist world not of our choosing. Marx, Lenin, Trotsky all had to earn a living in that (our) world. Our only option is to create something different, something better which one cannot do without confronting and overthrowing the status quo, which cannot be done by hermits attempting to exist outside the system. Hedges has covered our many wars since the 1980s as a paid correspondent for the New York Times, then quit when they would not print his "biased" reports. He went on to write several best selling books and continues to comment on our situation writ large. Most of his work may be found in TruthDig.com, including his masterful defense of Edward Snowden at the Oxford Debating Society. As I understand it, his message is that we absolutely cannot make change within the system, that we must find our own ways to rebel. But read him for yourself.

Re: “Give Him a Talk Show

The full title to the article was promising and then Herold just turns it into his regular "the right is even worse" article. He is just a tired old lefty writing the same old tired left wing stuff.

Re: “Give Him a Talk Show

Funny thing happened on the way to the Forum. All those left wing dip-wads screaming about the dangers of "capitalism" are making a good living by selling their distain for capitalism in bookstores everywhere.

How many free tickets were given away to the anti-capitalism rally?

How many free speeches did the anti-capitalist give?

How much if his ill gotten gain does he give to charity?

Are those fancy popped collar shirts and leather coats made from "fair trade" cows and cotton?

It is odd to listen to a profit mongering left winger scream about the dangers of "corporate" America. Especially when he had his Ivory tower constructed with non-union labor and cheap imported materials to save money and his immigrant maid is scrubbing away like a slave for 60% of what a typical American makes hourly.

No doubt in my mind, his secretary is making 70% of a "man's wages" as well. ALL HAIL THE DOUBLE STANDARD OF LEFTIST POLITICS.

Re: “Give Him a Talk Show

Mr. Hedges makes a living from books and speeches criticizing capitalism? Is he oblivious to the irony of that, or is he a cynic who embraces the inconsistency because it pays? How about his audience? Did any of them point out that he and they were willfully engaging in capitalism when they paid money to listen to him complain about capitalism?

Re: “Patriot Games

Speaking of "fat cats", didn't Hillary Clinton and her husband take over $150,000,000.00 dollars from countries that abuse woman and support terrorism and the destruction of America? I wonder, should we strive to support the Chinese as they work 24/7/365 to collapse our economy with their constant computer hacks and technology thefts?

Strange but true factoid. In 2007, Obama had a net worth of $1.3 million dollars. In 2015 he has a net worth of $12.2 million dollars. Poor guy, making $500K a year as president and doubling his net worth every 2 years, must be rough.

Does Obama "love America"? Well since he did not live in the continental United States until he was an adult he probably does not "love America" quite like the rest of us.

Obama was raised by communists who despised this nation, he proudly celebrates that fact in two different books he wrote on the subject. He eats dogs, hates whites and abuses drugs throughout his life, according to books he wrote.

Obama has no college transcripts, no romantic history before his current wife, no employment history of note and not one single accomplishment in the state house or US Senate. He has a home in Chicago bought in an arrangement with a local organized crime figure. He won two elections based on fraud, decent and lies. In short, he is someone the left would celebrate.

How dare someone question such a noted figure,,,,,,,,oh the shame Rudy brought down upon us.

The truth about "black lives" and who is taking them is here. All you have to do is read it.

Re: “A Woman's Worth

You got shot after attacking and bashing the neighborhood watch guy's head into the concrete sidewalk, sucks to be you.

You robbed a store, walked down the middle of the street until you happened upon a cop responding to the robbery and then you attacked the cop and got shot. You deserved it.

For every black person shot by a policeman, over 100 are killed by,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BLACK PEOPLE!!!! OMG!!!!

Why don't black lives matter to black criminals?

Where is Al Sharpton when a brother blasts a few people at the local night spot?

When a black man in America is murdered,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,90% of the time it was by a black man. The majority of crime in the black community is by blacks..

Six times more people are murdered with a knife than with a rifle of any kind. "Assault weapons" kill practically no one in any community when compared to knives, clubs, feet or fists. Those killed 3,300 people in 2013.

The REAL problem is that you are a racist, you hate white people and constantly blame them for YOUR failures. You fail and it must be whitey keeping you down. Those darn cops keep arresting you "for trying to make a living" out of slinging dope, robbing, pimping or stealing.

Tired of getting arrested? Easy problem to fix, stop doing crime. Tired of getting shot by the PoPo? Easy to fix, stop doing crime, attacking cops, armed robberies are a no no.

Pull your pants up, spend that tattoo money on trade school and learn a skill. Get a checking account and an address. Here is an amazing idea, lose that stupid nickname. Don'tA is simply s misspelling,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not a person's name out here in reality.

Treat people with respect and you get respect. You listen to thug music, idolize thugs and the thug life, dream of pimping as a profession. You think a broken fatherless home is cool. You are willing to father a hundred kids and to lazy to raise or work to support a single one of them. When you look like a thug, act like a thug and you are milling around on the corner with thugs, cops tend to look at you a bit closer.

You are looking at whitey as the problem when you should be looking in the mirror.
