Re: “I-1366: Just Say 'No!'

The nerve of some taxpayers, to demand accountability from government and good management of their tax dollars. Accountability, intelligence and good ideas simply have no place in a socialist society. We must have blind obedience to our party masters and accolades for their perceived brilliance.

Maybe a nice "peace prize" for middle east turmoil and starting a dozen civil wars?

Re: “Ye Olde Government

Our three current county commissioners could speed this along by placing a home rule charter vote on the next possible election. It is too late for November 2015 unfortunately.

Commissioners should be elected by district in both the primary and the general elections, unlike now where they are elected by district in the primary, but not the general.

Prop 1 gives us no more or better representation.

Vote NO on county Proposition 1.

Re: “Ye Olde Government

Ted, I agree with you and I'm voting NO on County Prop. 1 because we can do better.

There won't be any pressure on the County Commissioners to put a home rule charter on the ballot if the commission is simply increased to five from the current three.

Let's not mix up the issue of combining city and county governmental services (that helped the most recent home rule charter proposal to fail a number of years ago).

But if we're going to incur additional costs from having two more commissioners, let's have election and representation by district (to better protect the rights of minorities and represent the urban portion of the county). A home rule charter proposal can contain that language.

County Prop. 1 doesn't have that language. It simply increases the size of the commission to five.

The status quo is broken at the county level. But County Prop. 1 isn't the way to fix it. Vote NO on County Prop. 1.

Re: “Chief Complaint

Allow me to clarify. Does this article tell us that Lichty is qualified for any particular job, including Mayor of Spokane?

Never forget that current city councilman Fagan is Eyman's long-time partner. Birds of a feather...

For one, it tells us that we need to question this mayor's judgment.

Re: “Chief Complaint

I think this tells us that Mayor Condon fired the Police Chief. Does this tell us that Lichty is qualified to be Mayor, or anything at all?

It must be galling to lefties when Eyman's initiatives pass. Some voters just won't shut up and bow down.

The entertainment value alone demands the process and a new charter. Right wingers and Envision Spokane loonies in the same arena at the same time. Somebody could suggest fluoridated water, and somebody could suggest personhood for rocks and toadstools. Make Spokane County a sanctuary for illegal immigrants! Secede from the Western side of the State! Ban all firearms! Demand that every resident own and carry a firearm! What fun!

Re: “I-1366: Just Say 'No!'

Why do leftist keep calling the billions squandered on teachers salaries, "an investment in education"? The quality of the education students receive has not improved since the early 1970's. If anything children today are far less capable than students of just a decade ago. Billions in new schools and exotic salaries for people who work less than 150 days a year have netted nothing.

It is prudent to question the opinion of a commentator who manages the "public affairs" for an organization that dismembers babies and sells the parts. The government gives Planned Parenthood nearly $500,000,000 million dollars a year to kill 330,000 fetuses and peddle the parts to willing buyers. It is ghoulish at best. I'm willing to bet women's health is the least of the factors in that business model. Dr. Mengele would be proud of his followers.

Fewer tax dollars means fewer people like Paul raking it in from the suffering of others, that is what has him in a snit.

Re: “Falsenomics

Mickey old buddy, I promise you the "rich" pay far more taxes than you.

The top 50% of income earners paid 97% of the income tax. The top 1% paid more than 38% of that pie.

If Washington state created an income tax tomorrow, they would not lower or abolish any other tax. And it would tax everyone who made more than $1.00 per year. Trust me, Bill Gates will not be paying a nickel more than he does today. You on the other hand will be crippled. The goal of socialism is to cripple the middle class, co-opt the poor in a dependent class and insure suffering for all but the elite and their minions.

According to "progressives" every American is the 1%, they are a worldwide movement. All western countries live in the top 1% economically. When they say they want to "level the playing field" or to increase the "fairness" they mean they want to reduce you to the same levels of poverty found in Africa or southeast Asia.

Shared suffering and poverty for all, except the party elite of course. Ask anyone who lived under their yoke in the USSR, Poland or East Germany.

Re: “Falsenomics

One indication of the age and inexperience of this writer is her assumption that somehow increasing taxes will improve anything. States with higher taxes do not have better services, better education, lower crime rates or better roads. It is an infantile assumption that more money equals better anything.

Here is something this writer cannot seem to grasp. Government officials are NOT good stewards of our money. Yes little girl, it is OUR money. NOT your money or socialisms money or the earnings of the dope smoking dregs you embrace that makes this state government run.

For all of the benefits you claim Spokane county receives, we still have not completed the North-South freeway after 65 years of trying. Seattle got a freeway system that rivals any decent city on earth, in Spokane you cannot drive in any direction faster than a crawl. 65 years seems a bit slow to a non-socialist.

About 15 years ago, Olympia rewarded us for our patience with a shiny new prison, not a freeway. The leftists in state government also changed state law so that criminals no longer had to be returned to the county from which they came, upon release. So Spokane county has become the dumping ground for the states dregs, pedophiles, dope dealers and assorted scumbags. Gaze down from your ivory tower sometime, it is a bit grimy. While driving through downtown today, various sleaze balls simply wandered into the roadway in various stages of intoxication, welfare Christmas is tomorrow and they are out spending the last of their September EBT cash.

Agriculture, aerospace and high tech jobs employed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. While the companies may not have paid enough to suit your needs, the rest of us did. We bought homes and paid billions in property taxes. We bought cars and paid billions in gas tax, registrations, fees of all sorts associated with registering a car and billions in insurance and maintenance. This employed hundreds of thousands of other people. We bought houses, apartments, food, clothes, movies and an endless stream of goods and services that kept this state from becoming the socialist sewer of government dependence you dream of living in. Those darn capitalists made life possible for you.

In short Mariah,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes dear,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there is a Santa Claus. He/she is driving home from work in a ten year old Toyota as we speak. He/she is paying taxes, buying his/her kids school clothes, saving for retirement and NOT applying for endless government benefits because he/she has some self-respect. He knows that people who constantly demand higher taxes, endless welfare benefits and no balanced budget live in some sort of stupidity filled bubble. He hopes it will pop soon and you will get a clue.

Re: “Falsenomics

Fifty years ago Econ 101 taught that the rich were obligated to pay higher tax rates because they and their businesses make far greater use of public infrastructure, natural resources, and services than we commoners do. Today's conservatives say it's unfair to ask the rich to pay higher tax rates than the middle class. Somehow the wealthy's actual consumption of resources got removed from the discussion of their liabilities and obligations.

We don't build higher bridges and overpasses so the public's yachts and eighteen wheelers can get under them.

Re: “We Need a Prophet

Ted, what you really need is to have your head examined by a good mental health professional. You lament the fate of criminals and ignore the suffering of their victims, why?

You demand ridiculous wages for the least skilled and trained workers, outrageously high taxes to fund social welfare for those to lazy to work, legalized drugs to numb the minds of these idiots and that the police and courts ignore the crimes the commit against those who choose to work.

You blame every failure on others, much like your president. You do nothing to conserve natural resources and demand others live austere lives. I'm willing to bet you donate very little of your time and almost none of your money to any of the causes you demand taxpayers get raped for.

You worship the Pope, not because you like Catholics or God, you hate both. You would demand a catholic child be dragged from school and belittled for carrying a rosary. You celebrate those who curse Christians almost daily. You love the Pope because he spouts the Marxist crap you believe in. The Pope is a Marxist first just like you.

Re: “Falsenomics

Why is it so hard for some people to understand that the rich aren't paying their fair share in taxes like the rest of us? What is it with Americans who think and vote like they are rich when in reality they are dirt poor and they will never become rich, especially with the dwindling state of opportunity for upward mobility in this country? I just don't get it. Good on you for trying to educate people though.

Re: “We Need a Prophet

"men and women who have not been found guilty of a crime wallow in our Spokane County Jail because they can't muster $250 for bail. "

Poor Ted, as a Liberal member of the media misstating reality is the norm.
Your in Jail because you were arrested for a crime, with probable cause. You then must be proven guilty in a court of law. Thus it is the norm to be in jail until you are proven guilty or not. No DA has the time or money to prosecute unless they think they will win. Want to avoid all this, don't give the Police cause to arrest you. Sleeping on the sidewalk will draw the Police, having enough drugs on you to test positive is a personal choice.

Your lucky Ted, many of your readers don't care about reality. Stay out of trouble Ted.

Re: “PowerPointless

I couldn't agree more, Robert. I also liked this from a NY Times article about PowerPoint:

"Senior officers say the program does come in handy when the goal is not imparting information, as in briefings for reporters.

The news media sessions often last 25 minutes, with 5 minutes left at the end for questions from anyone still awake. Those types of PowerPoint presentations, Dr. Hammes said, are known as 'hypnotizing chickens'.”

I hate to admit it, but I did not know there were three state budgets. No one ever told me!

Thanks for explaining it, that makes more sense. *sheepish*
