Re: “Getting Flipped

Thanks for this post. I've heard Merrill speak once and have followed his/Fortune Builder's blog and TV site and have always found value in them. At the time I wasn't ready to spend the money on the paid seminar but I think I will next time I'm able to attend. I've heard mostly good things from people who have attended. The sales pitch doesn't bother me, as that's part of the business model. But $200 and a pitch actually sounds like a good deal based on what I got out of the first one. http://fortunebuildersmastery.com

Re: “First Day of School

This is all really great. However feeding first graders "trix" cereal filed with artificial food coloring and high sugar levels does not support academic needs. The food system in schools needs immediate attention.

Re: “Getting Schooled

The real question for the unions that represent District 81 workers is why? Why do classified staff make so little and teachers make so much? Where was their representation for the last 25 years?

A starting teacher makes at least $29.22 per hour, a 25 year district employee makes $14. That is the best example of socialist fairness I have ever seen. That starting teacher works 150 days a year, the average full time employee works 200-210 days a year. The teacher gets full time pay for partial employment and still wants MORE.

Those teachers treat the typical classified staffer poorly and they work hard to cheat the classified staffer out of every dollar possible in pay and benefits. Then, in a shining example of socialist stupidity they blame the school district for the vast pay imbalance caused by their contract demands.

When all is said and done, the teachers will have treated themselves to yet another unearned four day weekend and a massive pay raise and the classified staff will still work for peasant wages in an environment where they are constantly reminded by the "educated elite" that they are in fact 2nd class citizens in the world of education.

Why are they so ashamed to admit what the "average teacher" makes? It is huge when you consider how little the average teacher actually works in a given year. They start with maybe 150 days of class time, they work five hours a day teaching and they get weeks and weeks of vacation and sick during the school year. If you get 120 days of work out of a teacher is it a feat rivaling Everest.

When you average their pay into an hourly wage, they are doing quite well, especially for people who get two three day weekends a month, weeks off for Christmas/Kwanzaa/Festivus/ Easter/Thanksgiving/Mayday/Che's birthday and every other holiday real or imagined AND three months off in the summer.

I guess $750,000,000.00 in new schools won't buy loyalty or productivity from some people.

Re: “Age of Zaycon

As someone who hasn't made a decent living in over two years, hearing "it's easier to hire charming employees and teach them to drive trucks than to hire truck drivers and teach them to be charming" is really reassuring and gives me a bit of hope. Seems like a great boss and it's great to hear a start-up doing well, especially a local one.
