Re: “A Second Chance

My belief is that if a child is capable of committing a crime like this, they should be eradicated. This type of callous and heinous crime is something that is instilled from a young age. The difference between right and wrong is a choice made in subconscious thought. Unfortunately, people like this don't deserve a second chance. They deserve to be terminated like the wild animal they are. For God's sake, we put down dogs for biting people. Until we humans learn that we are ultimately in control of our society and that our reactions shape the actions of others, we are doomed to allow others to act like beasts and receive "forgiveness" for crimes that deserve permanent punishment.

Re: “Fracking Idaho

Well, I just moved into a new home and right after our move-in a gas and oil rep showed up and stated that they are drilling in the area and would like my permission to take my minerals and we will be compensated. Wait so you will contaminate my well and risk my childrens health to drill? He says it is going to happen regardless and that if we don't sign in order to receive payments, they still proceed and the state just gets the money instead. We have no interest is signing and only a couple of our neighbors agree with us, so what steps can we take to fight this? We are next to a river, on a well, and a nice natural habitat. Apparently this has been in the works over the last year and we just happened to move in late in the game so we haven't had any say until this point.

Re: “Money Men

In regard to the story, "Turned Away", it sounds as though there may have been an unlawful denial of housing under the Fair Housing Act based on the consumers' disabilities. Bonner County should have engaged in an interactive discussion with Mr. Boudousquie to determine if there was a way to accommodate the housing need of the persons with disabilities as well as the community needs. I hope that the County will do all that it can to meet the housing needs of persons with disabilities in their community and in Idaho.

Best,

Zoe Ann Olson
Executive Director
Intermountain Fair Housing Council, Inc.

Re: “Game Changer

Chesney was a complete a-hole to his staff. Trust me, I know. But you are correct in your assessment of Jan.

Re: “Game Changer

Jan simply doesn't belong there. She is arrogant, has no respect for her employees, makes too many assumptions about people, and doesn't have the background knowledge to be overseeing the departments. She doesn't deserve the credit for the changes that have been made - other than her willingness to fire people. Those changes were made by other staff from Verner's administration. She isn't a team builder or a good collaborator - her arrogance and lack of respect for others prevents it. Chesney was fired because he's not an a-hole to his staff. If you look at it closely, she's a lot like the mayor. No one enjoys working for either one of them and neither will tolerate anyone who doesn't agree with them. The only reason they want to be challenged is so they know who to fire.

Re: “Game Changer

Yes Jan Quintrall's hiring and firing practices in Spokane have been legendary for a very long time.

Re: “Game Changer

While Jan is far from innocent in how she manages people and handles things, she is correct in her judgments about how Chesney managed his department. He lacked the ability to communicate effectively with his staff, garnered little respect, and made many promises that his staff simply could not deliver on without breaking the law. The staff in that department is AMAZING and the cultural shift that many have seen was started before Chesney arrived. It was started by proactive STAFF who wanted to make things better.
