Re: “New Blood

Of course "parts of Spokane already look like Detroit". They are infested with democrats. It was absolutely "a bunch of democrats" who led the economic downturn. Democrats controlled congress and the senate and they fought tooth and nail to stop any reforms of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac. They created a system that collapsed when left unchecked. Obamacare is a similar system, only this time they will destroy healthcare and not the housing industry.

Real employers are driven away by HIGH taxes and a HIGH work force. Crappy roads and crumbling infrastructure go a long way to keeping industry out of the area. Crime is a problem because leftists refuse to jail and then imprison criminals. If you tire of crime, lock the criminals up once and for all. Yet leftists constantly demand we set them free to prowl the streets ASAP.

If you dislike the sewer you live in stop working so hard to create a sewer. If you worked as hard to fix the stupidity of the left as you did to blame others for it's failures, we would live in the Utopia you are trying to create.

Re: “A County Ombudsman?

The important thing to remember is the City OPO...does NOT have independent investigative authority by any stretch of the imagination based on the Guild contract negotiated by Frank Straub and David Condon. They may however have audit authority allowing them to audit various aspects of the SPD...we shall see.

It is important to also keep in mind that the "body camera legislation" is a law enforcement backed bill that will prohibit public disclosure of video in most cases and also has wiretap language which if passed would allow LEOs to intercept private communications with out being a party to the communication for the first time EVER in the State of Washington. The bill also does not contain the "no other available investigative method" clause currently in RCW 9.73.

I believe the "body camera legislation" is back in rules for a second reading...there is a good likelihood the bill will not pass which will mean that SPD and the SCSO will use the AG's opinion regarding the release of video which will allow nearly all of the video to be withheld from the public as they will need to follow the exceptions to the Public Records Act.

As the Sheriff, Straub, Condon, and Mielke know full well the Citizens Commission overseeing Seattle PD has recommended Seattle PD NOT go ahead with body cameras until proper legislation is passed...something that might be unlikely at this point.

As far as the SPD is concerned it is important to understand the contract negotiated by Frank Straub with the Police Guild gives the Guild complete control of body cameras and prohibits independent investigations by the OPO.

Re: “New Blood

You know something? There's are many parts of Spokane that already look like Detroit. The economic blight Spokane now faces is the result of your conservative establishment. And don't even go there and tell me that is was a bunch of liberals and it's because of the economic downturn. This stagnation has been going on for years and was caused by the indifference of the real people in control of this town and this county! They have created a system to keep real employers from coming in here especially those who won't do things the way the Spokane "Old Boys" want them to do. They have also failed to address the problem of crime which is the result of economic decay not what some so-called liberals have done! Open your eyes for once! #changespokane

Re: “Big Boom

Oil tank cars are bombs. Reroute the oil tank cars. Better yet, stop the oil tank cars from getting near here.

Re: “Big Boom

Let's play a game. While you're driving down I-90, take a look at all the trucks driving by and take note of the placards posted on their sides. Then go to this site:

http://www.phmsa.dot.gov/pv_obj_cache/pv_obj_id_B7F8DEE98FD84C56E80389202FAE7EA34E9C2100/filename/chart%2015.pdf

Then think about how many other trucks drive right through town, right along side you during your commute and some of the really nasty stuff they're carrying. Is there a risk with the oil trains? Sure, just like you're taking a risk driving alongside some of the hazardous traffic that moves through our town every day. I'd argue the risk you take driving alongside those rigs is far greater than the oil train traffic.

Re: “Game Over, Monopoly

The changes are already happening but why should a group like the Downtown Business Partnership or the Greater Spokane Incorporated for that matter hold sway to who can come in and do business here and who can't? This once again, is an example of the Old Boy Network of Spokane at play. One day, there will come a time when they will eventually lose influence and power over this burg. The sooner, the better!

Re: “New Blood

@Centrist: And what has the conservative establishment of Spokane done lately to address the problems we have now? Also, what have they done about the problems Spokane has had for many years? Looks like they haven't done squat as far as I can see.

Re: “New Blood

I believe the democrats and far left of Spokane can make our city more like Detroit, New Orleans and many of the other crime ridden sewers they govern with glee. With a little effort they could raise taxes and destroy the remaining industrial and technology jobs in this city.

What better than a service economy if naked coffee joints and fry cooks to support our rotting infrastructure and shrinking police force. Turning the place into a cesspool of patchouli stink, reefer smoke, welfare checks and low wage service jobs for all who choose to work would be yet another feather in the cap of failed policy that is the left in America.

Why everyone would be a millionaire if they just gave them a million dollars, right? Never mind the $450,000 Big Mac's and $50,000 sodas(less than 32oz and sugar free per Bloomberg's rules of cola of course)

When your taxes rise 50% and the crime rate goes up 50% and your quality of life drops to that of an Albanian,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thank communism, progressives and the far left for your $350 water/sewer/garbage bill.

Re: “New Blood

The right-wing have had their way for far too long and this is "thanks" to the Old Boy establishment in Spokane and those who agree and support them. It has made Spokane into an insular, inward-looking, moribund, and economically and socially depressed place. It is time to take Spokane in a new direction. We need to make Spokane a open, forward-thinking place with a quality of life to match our fellow Northwest cities like Portland or Seattle. We CAN do this and we WILL do this! #changespokane

Re: “New Blood

Hope we can elect some good people with values that aren't morally bankrupt like the leftist progressive types that equate 'diversity' with 'white genocide'.

Re: “New Blood

I hope we can keep the Council from being dominated by more loony right-wingers like Mike Fagan and move the Council further away from the influence of the Old Boy establishment types like John Ahern. Spokane will never become a more open and progressive place with them hanging around City Hall.

"ISIS, they can come on in," he says referring to the terrorist organization. "It's an open invitation to bring them on in, and they can raise all kinds of hell.". Haha I love Republicans

Re: “Calling Out Snitches

Originally, 'snitch' is an anarchic, anti-rule-of-law phrase used to flaunt proper reporting of crimes by good citizens.

Why does the Inlander hate law abiding, white citizens so much??
