Re: “Refresh and Refocus

Maybe this time around they will spend less time complaining about her new neighbor Durkin's Liquor Bar drink menu.

Re: “Refresh and Refocus

Great café with friendly staff and a good lunch menu. The second register and second espresso machine help with the speed of ordering, which was too slow during peak hours. Glad it's reopened.

Re: “The Remake

I have been to the Globe many times in the past and now since it has reopened my husband and I have been there several times. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is welcoming. As for Supercross, the bartenders do not have it on, do not know what it is, and we have had to ask everytime to have the channel changed to Supercross.

Re: “Facing History

We're not talking about cheating - or even "shabby" we're talking about turning a woman - who is ill - out in the streets and covering it up. And then touting him as a hero. Laying your claim on a piece of land and building some stuff on it - that happens to turn into a city does not a hero make - we need to look at the bodies buried under the foundations to see the whole picture. Frankly, I don't want my kids and grandkids looking up to a man like that. It makes us hypocrites. We live in a new age - we need new heroes - heroines. We need to support the standards that define us as a civilized society.

Re: “The Java Experience

I have had the pleasure of being to the Commons, first drinking an Espresso at Affogato's...it was wonderful. We have eaten lunch at Common Crumbs as well, fantastic sandwich's, soup...AND the tastiest most beautifully artistic pastries I have seen since I was in Paris yrs ago;) Finally I have consumed beer from the Brewery in the back...again top-notch! OH and we experienced FABULOUS customer service from smiling, knowledgeable staff at all three establishments. Cannot wait for the Mediterrano to open. The Commons is a MUST for you to patronage, and tell all your friends!

I'm confused. Is this a real thing? Because I want it.

Re: “The Java Experience

The other thing to know about this wonderful community-oriented establishment is that Shahrokh Nikfar chooses to provide all his employees the ability to earn a basic number of paid sick days every year so that he retains the best barista talent and we customers don't have to worry about our purchases forcing a low wage worker to put in their hours while sick to pay their bills. Shahrokh has taste, confidence and is a powerful and compassionate small business leader.

Re: “The Java Experience

I've been, and it's lovely. The ambiance of the Commons is so wonderful - you can grab a book or comic at Merlyn's, a macaron at Common Crumb and then enjoy both with your coffee and ice cream from Caffe Affogato in front of the cozy fireplace by Mediterrano. Can't recommend the experience highly enough.

Re: “New Beginning

We went in on Sunday, and after standing at the counter for nearly 10 minutes without being greeted by a host, a waitress finally pointed at us and motioned at us to sit in an unbussed booth. A few minutes later, another waitess came to clear the table and asked us, condescendingly, if we were "sitting here?" Apparently, we weren't supposed to be. She then said that since they were so busy (the restaurant was less than half full) that she didn't know how long it would be until we could be helped, but we would have to wait, "a while, I don't know how long," she said. We kindly said, okay, we will just leave, then. She didn't make any attempt to change our mind by giving us at least some hope of eventually being served, so we left and went to China Garden on the south hill. It was pretty good!
I'm glad to hear they are doing so well. They clearly don't seem to need any more business than they're already getting.

Re: “Peace, Justice and Fry Sauce

It is an understandable impulse to shrug and write it off as kids being young and stupid. That impulse is significantly less compelling if/when you see kids like that in the process of hitting rock bottom or trying to recover after hitting rock bottom.

Re: “New Beginning

Ate lunch there yesterday on recommendation of this article and was not disappointed. Very good food and generous portions.

Re: “Eating Cheap in North Spokane

Gerardo's on N. Monroe offers incredible "bang-for-the-buck" dining. A Super Burrito ($5.99-$6.99) feeds both me and my husband; throw in the free chips and salsa, and you've had all you can eat.
