Re: “Curtain Call

This was coming for a long time. Poor service (one employee that acts indifferent all the time), poor management (playing to an elder crowd and not the youth, choosing films based on monetary value that have already played in bigger theatres, almost no special events whatsoever - just play some awesome public domain movies, and following this no community promotion whatsoever), and an overall pessimistic outlook on its own business.
I sat down with the owner a few years ago for a documentary short and he declined to be interviewed because of poor business. This was right before they removed the last film projector being used in Spokane. I knew during this time that if the owner doesn't care about his independent theatre than nobody is. Very unfortunate to think the remaining independent theatre in town is the Garland (which is a solid venue no doubt), but hopefully someone will be able to revitalize the Magic Lantern. Whoever you may be though, please give it the TLC a local independent theatre needs. For more information, take a trip to LA and visit the New Beverly Cinema, Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theatre, the Aero and the Egyptian. These are shining examples of why movie theatres still matter in this age of streaming. Spokane needs to keep fighting for art. And film is art, too.

Why is your "main film critic" from Salt Lake?

Re: “Here for the Hustle

The link at the bottom of the article has an extra "t" in the work "Hustle." To get to the website you have to remove the extra letter.

Re: “I Saw You

DL, thank you for those words. The loss wasn't easy but that dream did bring me an overwhelming sense of peace. That was the shortened version. The longer version can be found on Instagram @ShadowPryncezz. I am sure my son will eventually return to me in my dreams. Thank you again for your kind words.

Re: “I Saw You

Whoever wrote in about your son: That's so beautiful, sincere and heartfelt. I can hear the sorrow of heavy loss in those words yet I can also feel a sense of peace because you were able to have a visit with your son. I hope he will come back to visit you in your dreams.

Re: “I Saw You

I keep seeing you, you beautiful red haired gorgeous lady driving around Spokane in your white Tucson with the Idaho plates. My eyes peer into yours, but you shyly smile but look away. How can we meet? I must hear your voice and look into those great green eyes.

Re: “Careful Coffee

Coeur is one of the few high-end coffee shops not dominated iSnobs (hello Indaba) and their awful Ikea aesthetic. Cool, quiet atmosphere for study, thoughtful collection of books on shelf, and of course, incredible coffee.

Re: “I Saw You

It's LGBTQ History Month. As you in the LGBTQ reflect back, remember those who have fought so hard to get you where you are today. And remember those who were victims of hate crimes and who died fighting for LGBTQ equality. All of you have come so far. So celebrate and remember.

Re: “Spreading Smiles

Medical profession and nursing community needs a salute! They serve people and spread smiles along. They should also be protected and for that medical uniform like is the best option. Along with it scrubs are the most important aspect for doctors and nurses or other medical representative.

Re: “THEATER | Chicago

Way to get me to read an article about Chicago by quoting Morrissey, Inlander. Nice tie-in. Well done to the author. I couldn't get 5 minutes in when I tried watching the movie version of Chicago ages ago, but you bring up Last of the International Playboys and suddenly I'm considering the play. Kudos.

Re: “I Saw You

Wow. Someone is feisty about the LGBT community. Not all of them are that way, but in your defense, it IS that way here. I moved here from NC 2 years ago. There, the LGBT community was appreciative of their allies; had time for them and let them know how important allies were to them. Here, it is almost the total opposite! Someone suggested I join Inland Northwest Business Alliance due to my strong allied stance. I had PLANNED to become a Platinum member. But 2 phone calls and 2 emails to them and no response! Obviously, their allies are not as important as they say. So yes, there are many here who are selfish and all that. On the other hand, I must come to the defense of TWO LGBT people here who are loving, kind, compassionate and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have time for their allies and SHOW AND TELL them how important they are. Rochelle, who sometimes writes here, it's her son and son-in-law. Even if they are working 100+ hours a week at their business, they STILL make an effort. So there are both in this city: the selfish ones and the selfless ones. Just seems to be unbalanced here. More selfishness and less selflessness. That's all.

Re: “Wrap it Up

I wish the north Spokane location cocked there tortillas. First time and last time I ate there my wife and I ordered the street tacos and the tortillas were not cooked. How are you going to advertise "street tacos" and not cook the tortillas?
