Re: “Is it fair for teachers to attack the legislators' 11.2 percent salary increase?

Cost of living was really a pretty minor issue at this rally. It was mentioned, but much more of the focus was on holding the legislature accountable for not passing a budget to fund basic education in this state. Voters have passed measures on smaller class sizes twice. The legislature is in contempt of court for not passing a budget. At the same time, legislators require more and more standardized testing which takes classroom instruction time away. This COLA thing is a red herring. Focus on the real issues.

Re: “Is it fair for teachers to attack the legislators' 11.2 percent salary increase?

The competition for teaching jobs in District 81 is fierce. If teacher pay is too low, there would be no or far fewer applicants. Like it or not, basic economic principles refute the suggestion that their pay is too low. And suggesting that higher pay is an issue for students is shameless.

Re: “Not so fast: Document undermines mayor's case to pay for Davenport Grand cleanup

I'm confused as to how a 2003 property agreement between the city and the PFD can impact a much-later property transfer (the Cloninger property didn't come into the city's hands until 2008 or thereabouts.)

Re: “Not so fast: Document undermines mayor's case to pay for Davenport Grand cleanup

Looks like Walt bought that. With as many attorneys as he has available and the PDC had available not to mention the City of Spokane's attorneys and counsel throughout the private offices, there is no way that Walt should have made it this far without knowing it was his bill.

Condon is just trying to make a great deal a better deal for Walt at the City of Spokane taxpayers expense. Don't be scuzballs.

I am Annie's ex sister -in-law, and I can assure you she is NOT racist. We have black family members we love. This about a man who can no longer breathe simply because he died at the hands of others! Please show your support for Annie by supporting her restaurant.

Seriously? That is it? Can someone just put Dave Mathews out of his misery. How many times can one person see the same show every summer?

Re: “KHQ's conspiracy-laden chemtrails story is false balance at its worst

Catherine, the change you see is the massive, massive, massive increase in air traffic. Since you were young the number of planes in the air has increased as much as 500%. Add to this the fact that they fly higher where it is colder and the engines are cleaner adding more moisture to the air and you get way, way, way more contrails. There is no such thing as chemtrails. If you are really curious as to what planes are flying above you, just look up plane tracking software. You can do it for free even. And planes fly over places where there are no airports. Planes fly from Washington state to North Dakota, they fly from Mexico to Canada. Why would you be worried that they are flying over your state too? As for rain following the trails, that is simple...the conditions in the atmosphere that cause lingering contrails is often found right before a rain storm comes through. It is actually super simple to explain.

Re: “Why canned laughter beats real laughter

canned laughter is ONLY annoying, either real laughs or NONE. It's painfully obvious and more distracting than anything...actually it's more annoying than anything. It's like someone pointing out that you control your breathing...all the time...you can't just relax and enjoy the show.

Re: “City Council preps for pot changes, tackles gender inequity and Hookerville returns

The Inlander came through East Central with a very unsavory picture of East Sprague as if ithe Inlander wasn't part of East Central all these years, but then to sugarcoat the "derogatory name for a part of town long plagued by prostitution" as not East Central doesn't change the position you took in the last year. The hooker signs drove the prostitutes of the main drag and didn't bring about any changes for thier safety. Today we had a car burn a brodie at Pittsburg and Pacific then straighten the car out burning all the way to Magnolia. Our Spokane City offiicials have absolutely no intent of solving issues in East Central. I personally almost had 3 cars wiped out and in 3+ hours we could not get a police response. Screw off Straub, Condon, Issleris and the Council. My attorney will be contacting you shortly on the illegal arrest and I will not sign a nondisclosure.

The attack on women in this city is disgusting. Between Mike and George disparaging my Clitoris I'm surprised I have any time to enjoy it.

Re: “KHQ's conspiracy-laden chemtrails story is false balance at its worst

Well, something has changed in my lifetime. Once upon a time planes did not leave lines miles and miles long crossing back and forth in checkerboard grid lines, crosses and the occasional circle.. These lines are even in places with no flight patterns. If scientists want us to believe the unbelievable, then how about explaining what changed? Let's ground planes until we get a plausible explanation. Clearly, these planes are not doing this without FAA approval, which means the feds know all about what is going on. Personally, I have seen planes flying in formation out in Tensed Idaho, no flight path to anywhere.. and yet, a checkerboard grid.. that was followed closely by a little rain storm. We have been manipulating the weather since the 50s, so, why is it a conspiracy theory to think they still are??? No conspiracy, but the fact experts, scientists and news media are covering it up or being really dense is definitely alarming. Clearly corporations of some sort are also involved. How about some real journalism? How about visually seeing the plane laying suspicious trails, finding out where that airplane lands and testing the plane and fuel? Our sunlight is being dimmed globally, the impact on photosynthesis alone should alarm all of us...not to mention the toxic particulate that is now turning our once beautiful blue skies milky white. If they drop it in the air, your children, my children, all of us, are breathing this crap, and I for one, no longer trust experts, scientists or news media. Demand answers, ground planes till they tell us the truth!! What have their "expert" experiments done to our atmosphere? Has our biosphere been damaged to the point of no return? What?

Re: “Spokane Riverkeeper joins lawsuit against new oil train regulations

The Heimdal derailment appears to have been caused by a defective wheel on one of the cars. The new rules do not call for increased inspections of cars and rails, whether by hiring more inspectors or by adding sensors. The cargo at Heimdal did comply with North Dakota’s crude conditioning order. Roper said the Hess shipment was "fully in compliant with North Dakota's crude conditioning order." It had a vapor pressure of 10.8 pounds per square inch — compared to the 13.7 pounds per square inch maximum under the state standard. That may have lessened the intensity of the flames, although, the other cargo on the Heimdal train did not feed the fire as much as the Casselton derailment had been fed by the accompanying soybeans. A bill by U.S. Representative, D-New York, would bar shipping crude with vapor pressure above 8.5 pounds per square inch.
It would take the FRA to speculate whether the new specifications for tank cars and braking systems would have made a difference.
The big picture is that rail, truck, boat, and pipeline all have their place and the Federal Railroad Administration makes and enforces the rail health and safety rules. The FRA has a good deal of latitude in how strict an eye they keep on the railroads. Lobbied incessantly by the rails they may turn a blind eye. Remind the FRA that they work for you. Frankly I think Superbowl 49 should be called a draw between the Colts and the Seahawks with a notation made about the circumstances why this "Draw" occurred. It will go down in history anyway, but the taint of cheating should be remembered forever.

Why would tourists want to stay in Spokane Valley now instead of going into Idaho? You are collecting a tax and hurting tourism for no purpose? Ridiculous!
