Re: “Is an 'East Coast law firm' behind the latest Envision initiative?

Not only does your comment exhibit your complete lack of understanding of what Communism is, it also completely mischaracterizes the statement made by Mr. Schmidt. Challenging corporate power is not akin to a world-wide Communist revolution. It simply says that regular citizens should be protected from an economy that is solely run and ruled by corporate interests. I seriously doubt Mr. Schmidt is in favor of a complete overthrow of the capitalist system and it's means of production, rather he is attempting to give more power to the working class which enables capitalism to function. I am not specifically endorsing this initiative by any means but to compare it to Communism is just asinine. Communism is based solely on the idea that private property should be abolished, not that workers should be paid a higher wage. A close reading of Marx's work is essential to being informed on Communism. Many people mischaracterize his ideas and believe their misinterpretations to be true. Please closely study something before making sweeping assertions about it.

Re: “Is an 'East Coast law firm' behind the latest Envision initiative?

I suppose it's interesting to know whether Envision Unemployment is a front for out of town interests, but it doesn't really matter. Regardless of who's pulling the activists' strings, why would any Spokanite want to be a lab rat or pawn for ideologues who don't care about the damage caused by their social engineering? No matter how badly these misguided policies fail, and regardless of how much Spokane and its citizens suffer, the activists will always say that the solution is more government, more regulation and more taxes. No matter how they achieve it, the goal is always the same: Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, and nothing against the state.

Re: “[UPDATED] Straub files $4 million suit against the city for due process violation

Didn't Straub and company run the his #2 guy into the ground before trying to fire him a couple of years ago? If I remember it correctly, he wanted to hand pick his own second-in-command and did not like the well respected policeman who was currently in the position. The back biters stepped up and went to work ruining that mans reputation and trying to get him fired.

As a matter of fact, they used mystery letters from unnamed subordinates who claimed to "feel threatened" when the person in question came to work with a gun or some such thing. Not an unusual thing to happen in a police department, yet the gun thing made him a "threat" to minions and flunkies of the new command element.

To bad this paper has no investigative reporters to look into it.

Re: “Is an 'East Coast law firm' behind the latest Envision initiative?

It should not come as a surprise that out of state groups are working on behalf of the "Envision" Spokane group. Communism is a world-wide movement so national level support is not unexpected.

Rick Schmidt, ends the article by saying he is a devout anti-capitalist and the movement is based on destroying "corporations"

Funny thing happened on the way to the workers utopia, they all bought computers, cell phones and internet access from the very same companies they profess to despise. Not one of them is wearing home spun and taking the road a Gandhi. Not one of the local communists can explain where the billions in payroll will come from if their brilliant idea passes?

What do you think? Will companies simply forgo profit and loot their bank accounts to stay in Spokane or will they either raise prices and make local families suffer or move their businesses out of the area?

Wow!!! Open up your pocket books citizens of the city of Spokane!! Those "foxholes" in your streets that were going to be fixed this year will have to wait....

I agree with you. This mess is brought to you courtesy of the Mayor. While I am not a fan of Mayor Condon, he has done some good for Spokane, but now this? Nope cannot support him. I also agree with Kenezovich that there is much we don't know about this. Will have to wait now....

Re: “Kootenai County Sheriff's Office sniffs out two phone scams

Both of these veteran related and jail related scams are being one of the most popular tricks that they used since years ago, at least based on many reports that I found at sites like I think whatever we have done to stop them, it failed! The best thing we can do now is just keep telling these stories to our family and friends, make sure they will be able to avoid falling victim to these scammers.

Re: “[UPDATED] Straub files $4 million suit against the city for due process violation

Condon hired him against the recommendation of basically everyone. So this is entirely his fault. Oh of course Straub is responsible for his own actions. But considering this is nothing new for him and he was hired in spite of his track record, I'd bet he has a good case. So Condon ought to personally hand over the $4 million bucks.

And I'm sure we'll learn a lot more from further investigation. And from Brian Breen of course, in spite of the fact that the only daily press in Spokane has shut him out. But of course we also know the owners of the press also own half of Spokane, and buy the mayor and anything in city hall also, all the while taking pennies from those in poverty. River Park Square anyone? And who do you think is behind attempting to move the bus station downtown? I used to give them the benefit of the doubt too. Oh, and I even voted for Condon. Not again on either.

Re: “KHQ doesn't understand what "Common Core" math is

A trite, lazy piece. If the point of the article is to be condescending, nailed it. Also, if Dan Walters wants to school readers on contractions (clearly he's an expert as I've never seen so many contractions used in a "professional" piece), he might want to read his article out loud before publishing to avoid unintended errors. Hint: there's a big difference between "that" and "than."

Re: “Meet your barista: Promise Boutelle at Caffé Affogato

I love it when you enter a coffee shop and the baristas welcome you with very friendly attitudes and smiles in comparison to when you enter and have to help yourself in almost everything. This is one of the things I look for in a good cafe or coffee shop.

Re: “Municipal workers endorse Lichty in Spokane mayoral race

The primary goal of the mayor has always been to steal as much from his employees as possible, to cheat them out of as much of their earned benefits as humanly possible and to curse his employees as thieves every time he pops onto 920am to chat. Unless of course you are one of his hired minions, then you are paid like royalty regardless of qualifications.

City of Spokane employees have been funding their pension system( since it's inception) thru contributions of about 9% of their earnings, the city contributes slightly less towards the system. Unlike most cities, the pension is not an "unfunded liability". It is however a treasure chest waiting to be looted by elected officials, this mayor, like most previous mayor's dreams of replacing the millions of actual dollars with millions of dollars in junk bonds and promissory notes.

Local 270 employees pay a decent portion of their healthcare, fund their pensions and pay most of their own 457K. City employees have gone FIVE years without a cost of living raise and the mayor still thinks they make too much money and need to be sent deeper into poverty for the privilege of serving the citizens of Spokane. What you are seeing is the utter disrespect this man has for working men and women in Spokane. No raise for half a decade and he still wants to cut your wages and benefits. Really?

What exactly is "compensation more in line with the private sector"? Any ideas? Truth be told, most city jobs pay less than "private sector" jobs with similar qualifications. Employment with the city wins because it is relatively free from lay-offs and slow downs and the benefits are decent. If you want to raise a family, it is an okay place to work, with the exception of having to work for a mayor who has no respect for you.

We have a two-pronged attack on working residents in Spokane. You have the "envision" crowd, working to rob you blind, cripple you with high taxes and force you to pay the freight for the lazy dregs that they are courting for the next election. And from the right you have our beloved mayor, cursing his own employees, demanding they work for poverty wages for the benefit of his millionaire friends on the South Hill. If your neighbors did not leave you a spare million bucks, he only wants to see you when you empty the trash or serve his food.

City of Spokane employees deliver safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, refuse collection, police and fire protection and administer every function of a major city with few problems, no scandals, no crimes and very few complaints, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. And yet the mayor thinks they are overpaid thieves of tax dollars.

The question you should ask yourself when your ballot arrives is, why? Why vote for a man who wants to lower everyone's wages, destroy their retirements and decrease their benefits? He is not just after his own employees, he is working on behalf of any business that feels they have the right to pay slave wages to their employees. You never hear this man talk about improving the quality of life of the average person in Spokane, NEVER.

Why not vote for someone who wants to improve the quality of life for the working residents of the City of Spokane. YOUR, Quality of life never improves with Wal-Mart wages for working residents, lousy streets and higher take home pay for the South Hill elite. Their streets look pretty pot hole free when compared to anywhere else in town.

Re: “This morning's top headlines

Looking at just the last decade, the records show that from FY 2002 to FY 2004 prosecutions jumped from 7,948 to 11,015, up by more than a third (38.6%). From the 2004 high, however, prosecutions declined to 7,465 in FY 2011, down by 32.2 percent. Then, in just the last year, prosecutions increased up to 7,774, or 4.1 percent higher than in the previous year.

According to the Idiot-in-Chief, we have a problem with firearms. According to HIS Justice Department, we have no problems since prosecutions are nearly record lows. About 7,500 federal firearms crimes are prosecuted annually.

According to most communist or socialist news outlets, 100,000 people are injured with firearms every year. That means at least 50,000 people are eligible for a federal firearms crime. 85% of these people do not get a second look by Obama and his Justice Department.

1.300.000 violent crimes, many with firearms, 152,000 armed robberies with firearms, 24,000 murders and assaults about 50% with guns and still they managed to prosecute ONLY 7,500 people.

The real problem with mass shootings is that they are typically some form of deranged leftist, filled with hate from listening to MSNBC and Obama and they snap. When this happens, they cannot blame themselves, socialists blame guns for their misdeeds.

Next week the Inlander will be running a story. It will ignore the racist and religious hate of this young man and blame guns for his crimes. It will yet again mock the victims of another criminal and ignore the fact this was a hate crime.

Re: “What we know so far — and what we don't — about the mass shooting in Oregon

A man murdered people because of his racist and religious hatred of them and the socialists blame guns for the problem?

Strangely, they never scream to ban cars after a traffic accident. It is a person's fault, unless that person uses a gun, then is was the inanimate hunk of metal that drove him/her to kill.
