Re: “STA's trying to figure out why, exactly, it barely lost the election

$10k to an out of state firm to find out how people voted, and they wonder why we won't vote to give them more money. How about you hold some town hall meetings, and listen.

The idea sucked! Can you figure out you are administrative heavy and low on customer service?

Re: “STA's trying to figure out why, exactly, it barely lost the election

Dang, I was out of town last week and did not hear the results until today. At least our 2 votes were counted for the measure. Now they will have to spend more money to do another election. :( Mostly it was just anti big government "think tanks" swaying weak minded individuals :( It is too bad :(

It was a pretty great measure overall and would have helped a lot of people.

Re: “STA's trying to figure out why, exactly, it barely lost the election

Rather than spending $10,000, STA can spend 10 minutes reading the columns in the Spokesman several weeks ago that pointed out the implications of the proposal. Like most agnecies, STA has economic motives to perpetuate itself and to expand itself. Those motives aren't necessarily in the best economic interests of the taxpayers who foot STA's bills. A healthy skepticism about STA is warranted for reasons including the cost of the STA plaza, which is now worth a fraction of the cost and is worthless for any other purpose such as retail.

Considering voter turnout was about 33% why spend $10,000 trying to figure out what happened? Smh.. #ChangeSpokane

Re: “City Council members announce effort to tackle gender and pay inequities

Funny the off-quoted 'Lincolnism' here.

To wit:

Women are weak and men are strong?

Men are rich and women are poor?(well, I guess 22% poorer, um, ok)

Women are only earners, never payers?

Women and men are different classes of
citizen?

Maybe I've completely misconstrued Fagan's point; even so I find a fairly perfect irony at play.

Re: “City Council members announce effort to tackle gender and pay inequities

Can we get a comparison of wages for men and women in the same job??? You can't compare the average salaries of each gender and not account for men working more hours on average and working more physically dangerous jobs which of course pay more. This article is filled with feminist rhetoric.

Re: “Measles outbreak spreads, health officials urge unvaccinated to stay home

Actually, the MMR vaccine does NOT list "shedding" as a possible side effect. It doesn't even warn to stay away from the typical infant, pregnant or immunocompromised. Although MMR is a live attenuated vaccine, it is an extremely weak version. The warning your talking about, relates more to spray LAVs that are used for the flu. While that may be a relevant argument if we were discussing the flu, we're not. This relates to the measles, for which there has been one case EVER that may have been caused by shedding and if you were to read the actual report, the researchers themselves claim that there is no definitive proof that the reaction in this ONE case was actually caused by measles.

Re: “Measles outbreak spreads, health officials urge unvaccinated to stay home

What about the kids who have been recently vaccinated who can shed the disease and give it to your infant, child or you? Do you blame them to? It says right in the vaccine package label that recently vaccinated kids can be contagious for 3 weeks or longer.

Re: “Measles outbreak spreads, health officials urge unvaccinated to stay home

Absolutely agree with everybody here. I believe that we have made incredible progress in the development of vaccines and we should, whenever possible take advantage of that. On the other hand, those who decide not to take advantage of these progress are free to do so and natural selection will have an important saying on the outcome of such decision. As a father of a 4 month old that cannot yet get vaccines against measles and do not desire to have his child exposed to a serious disease, well this makes things more cumbersome for me but I will try to avoid natural selection taking its course.

The problem is not enough young people are voting. Either they believe that their vote doesn't count or they just don't don't care. It's too many seniors voting.

Re: “Measles outbreak spreads, health officials urge unvaccinated to stay home

As the mother of a 4 month old I am disappointed in those who choose not to vaccinate. Measles can kill babies and she isn't old enough to have a choice about getting a vaccine. Hope you are all happy that choose to put our babies at risk when we have clear technology to prevent it. You suck

That "quote" provided by Fagan isn't even Lincoln's: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/lincoln/prosp…. So typical of the Tea Party "patriots"...and so misguided and sad.

Been a fan since 1987. Love Anthrax. They always bring it. Never a bad show. Their last album, Worship Music, was awesome. Hope the new one can match up.

Re: “Measles outbreak spreads, health officials urge unvaccinated to stay home

Measles should not be scary. 60 years ago it was a normal part of childhood. It was extremely rare to hear of a death from this illness back then. It wasn't scary!! People got measles, mumps and rubella. It was normal. My husband had mumps and measles as well as my father and mother. Let our immune systems do what they were made to do and actually build real antibodies against sicknesses. Vaccines do not give us lasting antibodies. I wish people would really do their research.
My objections to vaccines are: I feel many are unnecessary, and also many are made immorally in my view. They go against my religious beliefs. I do not want fetal DNA injected into my children or into myself.
My hope is that people won't take away my rights because they are blindly following the medias influence without doing their own investigation into vaccines. Scare tactics to take away peoples' rights...sounds familiar. If we decide that the government has the right to inject us with whatever they deem necessary, we have given up the rights to our own bodies. Who knows what may follow.
