Re: “Photos: Solidarity Action for Ferguson

We were too busy protesting about the lives lost. Meanwhile, the protestors were on hand protecting local businesses from predominantly out of town (check the arrest records) opportunists: http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/25/us/ferguson-…

Re: “Photos: Solidarity Action for Ferguson

Apparently many of the small businesses that were looted and/or burned in the Ferguson riot were owned by minorities. Did anybody protest against that here in Spokane?

Re: “Ferguson: Calm down... for what?

Maybe you can dream of getting out of a culture that is self-defeating at every turn. So done with listening to babbling like yours. It's meaningless until black leaders call black youth out for their own actions; until we address the issue of 75% of babies born to single mothers; black-on-black crime., etc... Focus on the real issue.

If you are suffering from depression, I recommend the http://destroydepression.com system.

Re: “Ferguson: Calm down... for what?

Michael Brown did not die because he was black in America. He robbed a convenience store, assaulted the clerk who tried to stop him, and then assaulted the police officer who tried to stop him. The tragic outcome was the consequence of his actions.

Bless you. May you continue to find happiness and be an inspiration for others! Being true to oneself, no matter who one is, is the most courageous thing anyone could do.

Re: “Dialing up the past: The return of the Tiki Lodge

Never worked at the Tiki. But my first hotel job (I am retiring in January) was at the Trade Winds in 1977.
About at tropical as Missoula in December.

Re: “About a Boat

Wonderful and touching chronology. I, too, own a 1971 Jolly Roger, and would love to put together a comprehensive design history. I think this might be a good starting point for that. Is there a way I could contact you, for a little guidance?

Re: “Meet the guy who's giving away thousands of dollars in cash to the homeless in Spokane

I'm assuming that the point here is that there are many ways to "help" people. Since he's new to the area maybe he's not familiar with what we offer. I don't think he's saying not to giving to bigger organizations or Volunteering is a bad thing just breaking it down to a basic level to encourage sharing. As to the background I applaud the Inlander for researching and making sure all facts are present. Some people make bad mistakes and pay for them. Once the jail term/parole has been completed we as a society need to help incorporate them into "normal" life again. As to his victims. I hope he has returned what he can and I assume the compassion he seems to have for the homeless extends to them too.
I don't think the "public" face of Spokane has much of a leg to stand on when spouting about treating the homeless with diginity and respect. Look at the laws they've passed with the no sit/lie laws. The attitude seems to be see no evil/ hear no evil/ speak no evil. At work (yes downtown) I over hear conversations about buying dog food to eat because it's cheap and won't spoil, sore arms/legs/back due to carrying everything they own on their backs, where the best places to go and warm up without lectures of how they deserve the injuries that no longer allows them to afford a place to live. Afterall they didn't become a bachlor degreed citzen swimming in debt and about to go postal etc... This is the "respect" this city offers it's homeless.

Re: “Who's In Charge?

Seriously? The former planning director was all talk. As much as people wanted to believe his words because he has an amazing gift for telling people what they want to hear, there's no substance. The mayor did the right thing.

A better analogy would be to cast Chesney as the tailor behind the "Emperor with no Clothes." Fortunately, he was let go before he caused a major embarrassment.

Re: “Hairy Matters

*sheepishly* I remember FireHouse, Danger Danger and Britny Fox. And Bang Tango, BulletBoys, Junkyard, Dangerous Toys, Kix, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, and on and on and on. Loved it, and still rock out to it occasionally.

Re: “Hairy Matters

At some point self destructive hedonism is no longer brash youthfulness. It's old, tired and creepy. Better to burn out than to fade away. Retiring the band is the only way to avoid self parody.
