Re: “The GOP Offensive

Kirk Smith’s comments in the article “The GOP Offensive” are most interesting to me and should be to anyone involved with either the Spokane Tea Party or the Republican Party. To question whether Michael Baumgartner is “grass roots” enough for the Tea Party to endorse is certainly acceptable, even though I disagree with his conclusion. But to openly support Chris Marr is certainly something that makes me seriously question where he is coming from and whether he is a good spokesman for a “Liberty Minded” group like the Tea Party is supposed to be. Chris Marr is anything but a Constitutional candidate and is obviously following in Lisa Brown’s footsteps. You do not get more "progressive" than Lisa Brown nor her protégé’ Chris Marr and anyone who is willing to look at their voting records can see it whether you agree with them or not. I liken it to Ron Paul coming out and supporting Obama’s policy on much of anything. As a 2-year member of Campaign For Liberty and the Chair of the Spokane County Republican Platform committee I can say that no one I talk to supports Chris Marr and so I have to wonder exactly who it is that Kirk is talking with these days, they are not people in any circle I am in. It even brings into mind why he was the chosen to give comments for this article since his views would be in a very small minority of those at the Republican convention and why he chooses to remain a Republican at all. So, as for his endorsement for Mat Shea and Shelly Short, that is extremely questionable as well since both of them are on the extreme opposite side of the political spectrum as Chris Marr. In closing, I have one more comment to make, the Republican Platform has NO planks of the Tea Party, none zero zip……… It represents the overwhelming opinion of the Spokane County Republican Party as told to us through a recent questionnaire. If the planks match what the Tea Party believes then maybe they could try working with us on issues. We might actually become friends and get more done.  Steven Neill
