The TEA Parties are hard to label. They are inconsistent from County to County. Some have been hijacked by Establishment Republicans and some still don´t trust either of the major Parties. Strangely enough, many people in the TEA Party locally also marched with PJALS in 2003 to not get involved in Iraq.
Communication between the TEA Party leadership and members, and with other TEA Parties is poor. They will eventually evolve into some other entity or be absorbed by other Freedom Groups.
If anything Kirk Smith is too Republican. When John Korondy ran for Chair of the County GOP in 2008, Kirk told him to withdraw because Mr. Korondy had allowed his neighbor, Brian Sayres, who was running for Commissioner as a Democrat, to put a Campaign sign in his yard. John Korondy, who had escaped from Hungary as a teenager, complied with Kirk´s request.
