I second SHobbs comments and would like to provide additional insight from a publisher. I work for SuperMedia, which publishes the Verizon Yellow Pages. While the yellow pages was referenced 12 billion times in 2009, some do prefer to go online and it does us no good to distribute a book to consumers who don’t use it!


Also, I understand your environmental concern, but wanted to share that the paper we use for directories is a clear example of reused material



* Our books are printed on paper containing up to 40% post-consumer recycled fiber
* When available, the remaining paper content comes from wood chips and pulp, waste products of the lumber industry


There are also many secondary uses for recycled directories: environmentally friendly cellulose insulation, new paper, packing material, animal bedding, compost, tissue-grade products, wallboard, envelopes, hydro-mulch and roll cores.

Fact is, there is a need for a yellow pages. 48% of consumers say print yellow pages is the source they use most often and 9 out of 10 users make or are likely to make a purchase. Unfortunately, for years the YP industry was focused on defending their product instead of differentiating it.


Last year we introduced the SuperGuarantee (www.superguarantee.com) program available in all our products. When a consumer hires a painter, auto mechanic, contractor, plumber or other service provider that is part of our program, we will stand by the work. If there is a problem, we will step in & make it right. If we can’t, we will cut a check for up to $500 to the consumer. The program is free to both the consumer & eligible client.


I hope your readers can see the that there is a difference in the books and SuperMedia is working to make the distrubution process better.
