Old Man John Ahern along with Nancy McLaughlin and David Condon represent everything that is wrong with Spokane and why Spokane cannot get ahead and become more progressive. You keep hearing from these prudes the same old "I don't want Spokane to become another Seattle." line. Well, first of all Spokane could never become another Seattle if it tried because it doesn't have a port. Also, what is wrong with having more jobs? What is wrong with a decent living wage? More culture and diversity? The sooner we can sweep these conservative curmudgeons aside, the better off Spokane will be. Voting for Ben Stuckart, Randy Ramos, and Shar Lichty would be a pretty good start.
Very disappointing move by the Inlander for choosing a Cathy McMorris-Rodgers crony and a member of the Spokane "Old Boy" Establishment's next generation. So much for being an "alternative" paper. Apart from that, you seem to not take Condon's failures in leadership in regards to the police situation, the fire department, and the economy. I fail to see anything substantial he has done in regards for bringing in more jobs to this community. No. Spokane needs a new direction. Vote Shar Lichty!
Shar Lichty for Mayor!
You know something? There's are many parts of Spokane that already look like Detroit. The economic blight Spokane now faces is the result of your conservative establishment. And don't even go there and tell me that is was a bunch of liberals and it's because of the economic downturn. This stagnation has been going on for years and was caused by the indifference of the real people in control of this town and this county! They have created a system to keep real employers from coming in here especially those who won't do things the way the Spokane "Old Boys" want them to do. They have also failed to address the problem of crime which is the result of economic decay not what some so-called liberals have done! Open your eyes for once! #changespokane
The changes are already happening but why should a group like the Downtown Business Partnership or the Greater Spokane Incorporated for that matter hold sway to who can come in and do business here and who can't? This once again, is an example of the Old Boy Network of Spokane at play. One day, there will come a time when they will eventually lose influence and power over this burg. The sooner, the better!
@Centrist: And what has the conservative establishment of Spokane done lately to address the problems we have now? Also, what have they done about the problems Spokane has had for many years? Looks like they haven't done squat as far as I can see.
The right-wing have had their way for far too long and this is "thanks" to the Old Boy establishment in Spokane and those who agree and support them. It has made Spokane into an insular, inward-looking, moribund, and economically and socially depressed place. It is time to take Spokane in a new direction. We need to make Spokane a open, forward-thinking place with a quality of life to match our fellow Northwest cities like Portland or Seattle. We CAN do this and we WILL do this! #changespokane
