Re: “Rabbit Season

In the commentary by ´raising rabbits´, he/she states ´the butchering can be done quickly and humanely by any homeowner or their teenage kids.´
Why is it that ´butchering´ a living being is acceptable when it is of a certain species, and animal cruelty if it is of another, regardless of intent. A life is being destroyed and in a very brutal fashion.
For instance, if teenagers are butchering dogs and cats, this is certainly animal cruelty and the early signs of violence toward humans and possibly even the warning signs of a future serial killer.
To take away the life of another being is a self centered action. It is void of empathy and compassion.
It must require that one be removed from that part that allows us to feel empathy for another´s life.
Advocating that teenagers, or anyone, partake in these actions, in an era and geographic location that does not necessitate the taking of a life, is to encourage the separation of individual and empathy.
Encouraging teenagers to develop empathy and compassion will lead toward more of the same passed on to others.
Killing animals for fur is an extremely self centered action. In this day of synthetic alternatives for providing warmth, the use of fur is a sign of ignorance and callous disregard for life. Fur also represents vanity and the highest lack of empathy for other living beings.
Is it really so harmful to not do harm?
