Yet another great article. I do not see myself as a republican or a democrat, but by observing the specticle of the political scene since the 2008 election, I am leaning more and more to the democratic side. The right wing (aka Republican Party) has taken a turn to the extreme. I used to really love the republican values... Republicans used to stand for the people and social issues not big business, corporate expansion and profit, globalization, and the religios "purity." What happened?Even though I am leaning towards the Democratic side of the debate, I still vote for candidates and not parties. It just so happens that most of the republican candidates are more and more bat sh*t crazy so I end up voting for democrats. The republican party does not have my intrest in mind.I have to agree with spookytoon... The two-party system has failed America...
Yet another great article. While I greatly enjoy your articles and views on politics, I am afraid that the large majority of people ignore articles like this one. People watch reality shows not CSPAN, so they ignore the current issues in politics. The reason for the big disconnect the majority of the country is feeling is because most people think that there is nothing anyone person can do against the big corporate interests of Wall Street. While it doesn´t seem fair to blame mostly one party for the problems in our country today, it is true that the Conservatives have caused the most damage by allowing the slow but sure destruction of any and all regulations that are supposed to keep them in line.
No you Marty, you fat ass dropped the ball... Sorry I dontt think Kinect is made for fat people because I play it just fine and the motion cameras capture every flick of my finger and the response time is perfect... Don´t blame the game for your own fat blob of a body that no camera in the world can capture compeletely or properly. The camera needs to sense some definition in your body... Thats near impossible if your body shape is a circle...
I really can´t believe you would list former president George W Bush on the same list as Lincoln, JFK and FDR as one of the great American presidents. I don´t understand how he deserves to be on the same list... He started a war by invading a country under false pretenses and basically forced one of the worst economic recessions since the Great Depression because of unpaid tax cuts and overspending on a war that the country couldn´t afford in the first place... Its insulting to see his name next to the greats...As a matter of fact he deserves to be on the list of the worst American presidents of all time.
Well written article. I hate to say it, but some of those sound like wishful thinking... The one that I HOPE for is the commitment to public civics education. Its sad that the majority of the nation can´t even name the three branches of government...
"Better to stay silent and be thought a fool, then to speak up and remove all doubt" This used to be the motto most everyone followed... When did that change? Sadly I have to agree that America now glorifies ignorance and stupidity and punishes intellect, reason and logic... Unfortunately, too many people who actually should be speaking up and know a thing or two about the world today and how politics work stay silent. It seems that the majority of people who are smart and intellectual know the old saying all too well and are afraid of speaking up. Also, those that do speak up are demonized by the hordes of the ignorance army created by the Tea Party. The party is kind of mind boggling because most of what they believe and stand for would directly harm them (mostly financially).
I have never hear of Judt, but will definitely read his book. Also, I love it when people say that America has the best heath care in the world. Its just priceless! America has the most expensive health care, but it is definitely not the best. I have first hand experience of going to a hospital for an appendicitis surgery with no insurance. I had to pay about $18000 for a 3-4 hour stay at the hospital. This was almost 3 years ago and I am still paying (probably will be for the next couple of years). If you don´t have a job that offers heath care, you can´t afford to get sick.
