I agree with your opinion 100% that it would be stupid to pull your gun out in a situation such as Tuscon. But, it seems to me that you are putting all gun owners in that one particular situation, where law enforcement is already present with guns drawn. I trust our law enforcement and would gladly let them do what they are paid to do, however what about when they are 10, 15 or even 20 minutes from the scene? Should I keep my gun holstered and let the massacre take place until the police arrive? NO, and I believe these "law abiding" gun toters as you call them would try to help the innocent and unarmed just as I would. I don´t consider myself a protector of the innocent, but I would do what I could if I were in that situation. Oh, and the reason crime is the lowest it´s been in years is because of "vigilantes" like those who took matters into their own hands on that plane during 9/11, (the bad guys know we aren´t putting up with it anymore.) There are hundreds of millions of guns in this country and 95% are owned by regular everyday people, not drug dealer, gang bangers or even law enforcement. I for one, will let police take care of it, but if they are not there, and my background is clear of innocent people, I´m taking the shot.
