Excellent article. The description "unrelenting mediocrity" is dead on. Spokane will never keep talent here or improve if it doesn´t change. There is no reason too. There seems to be a fear of success here as well ... basically the fear of someone else succeeding. I´ve been to all kinds of technology-based programs from Women 2.0, NYU programs, SXSW and Spokane just does not have what it takes .. the mindset. From the activities I have supported and participated in here, like Startup Weekend, there is a "high school clique mentality" here and it stops progress dead in it´s tracks. I call it "who´s your momma?" club. I commend those who are at least attempting to change it. Good luck. I have actually spoken to wonderfully successful entities here and ask the question "how did you do it here in Spokane?" The answer: "Oh, we don´t do business in Spokane. Our headquarters are just here." Enough said.
