No, the MAC is not private, it is the Eastern Washington Historical Society, a state agency. It is grossly underfunded, however, so they do a lot of fundraising as well.

You can get involved in the political process and convince 51% of people that public support for the arts is a bad thing and elect anti-art candidates. Good luck with that. Or, Idaho.
