Re: “How putting its hero behind bars freed Hannibal to cut loose

Honest, I can see why the show can be impressive but not very likable. However, Mads Mikkelsen is so dazzling as Hannibal, you sort of fall in love with him. Everything in his performance, from his cold posture (Mikkelsen was a ballet dancer), demeanor and even Mads' own facial structure give the show its focus. I've never enjoyed horror films, snuff, slash, zombie, procedural. Mostly because they use death gratuitously, boring and uninteresting. But "Hannibal" takes joy in dissecting its gore, making the viewer lust and churn in disgust, simultaneously. Mikkelsen makes Hannibal sexy in a strange way, and that's very scary for a viewer. I like the serial killer? Wtf! Yet, the art direction gives us a scrumptious viewing, almost as if the show were a meal created by Hannibal himself. Mostly, though, I love watching his meat-suit chip away while Graham's memories return. The show is a psychological thriller, clear, unclear, sexy, disgusting, yummy, ballet in brush strokes. I love it! Clearly.
