West claims that she "doesn't want to be seen as elitist or opposed to transit" but she does want to BE elitist and opposed to transit. She and the other commenters here seem offended that anyone should be able to hang out in a public area without driving or buying crap at riverfront square. Rich people can choose to avoid "unsightly" areas, but the citizens of Spokane that don't have cars cannot choose to stop needing transportation. Everyone who is bitching about the plaza needs to consider that the needs of disabled people, students, young people trying to save money, poor people, environmentally conscious people who don't want to destroy the planet driving, and grandmas to get where they need to go is more important than their desire to keep poverty out of sight.
