Sound Advice

Today, in the Ought Six, we look for veiled Christian imagery the way we used to look for veiled satanic imagery -- not because of any bias, but because it's useful to know if your new fave rock song is seemingly talking about eros but is actually talking about agape. Either's cool, but agape is way less fun to make out to. Until now, that is. The Harps, who've definitely got themselves some agape, beautifully and brashly meld cock rock with art rock (Stones and AC/DC with Velvet Underground and T Rex), proving conclusively that the two really aren't that far apart. Their show -- at the Big Dipper on Sunday will make you want to cop a feel ... on God.

Tick, Tick, Tick-Tick

At first glance, the cover of Fine for Now's new album The Difference Between looks like an Uzi pointed directly at you. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear it's actually a quarter-inch guitar jack pointed directly at you. Either way, the message the band is trying to send rings clear: "We're going to blow all your minds."

And they do just that -- to the extent that their AFI-inflected adult contemporary rock allows for mind-blowing, that is. Their CD release party pops off Saturday at the Blvd. It's $6 to hear them, International Heroes, Scarletta and My Fatal Mistake. You can't beat that with an Uzi pointed directly at you.

Boom, Dynamos

To give you some idea of how big So Many Dynamos have gotten since they played Rock Coffee earlier this year, they're totally opening for Sub Pop's new it band Oxford Collapse [see right] in Billings on Monday. (You know your band's too hip to live when you're opening for the Sub Pop signee almost no one has heard of yet.) They're not, though, too big to make a return trip to the Kan, playing with the Matador Room and Victory Smokes at the Blvd. on Wednesday. Tickets are $5.
