BEST PLAYGROUND - Manito Park - Maybe it's the proximity to the duck pond. Maybe it's the fact that this particular playground is surrounded by the area's best urban park. For whatever reason, results this year exactly reversed those of two years ago, when Manito took third and the elaborate wooden Fort Sherman climbing structure at City Park in Coeur d'Alene won. Is the South Hill crowd cocooning more, staying closer to home in the wake of 9/11? At least the happy sounds of children playing on swings and climbing on jungle gyms help to remind us what's precious in the aftermath of terror.
