BEST TV NEWSCASTER - Randy Shaw, KREM - Every evening, at 6 and 11 pm, Spokanites watch the area's Numero Uno TV anchor Randy Shaw, whose popularity stems from his combination of down-home charm and TV-lite gravitas (in his off-hours, he plays guitar in the Randy Shaw Band).

Shaw possesses a winning depth of experience. He started his news career in print, covering the Watergate hearings, and later turned to the dark side, er, broadcasting, holding the microphone during three presidential administrations. Shaw recently joined KREM, but he's been anchoring TV news in Spokane for 17 years.

Like many reporters, Shaw is hesitant about looking back at his past work, but he's currently in the midst of a series called "The Legends," which are stories of local heroes from WW II through the Persian Gulf War.

"I am most proud that we helped find a Spokane WW II-pilot who had been missing in action for nearly 60 years," Shaw says. "His widow and daughter then traveled to Belgium, where his plane went down, to say their final good-byes. I am very proud to tell the stories of these local heroes who literally helped save the world and go on to inspire the generations that follow."
