Mmmm, Prozac. We'd like to pop those little stinkers like Tic Tacs, but they're reserved for people who need them way more than we do. People like the folks behind Ambulance for Angeles -- people who take the word "emotion" to a level that we couldn't possibly imagine. Sounding a little like Elliott Smith but shooting for more of a Pedro the Lion-like sound, the local boys of Ambulance for Angeles will play a farewell show tomorrow at Fat Tuesday's before they take off to shop their emo-rock sound around to various labels.
AforA will play with a host of other lookalike bands, including a Seattle-based punk troupe, the Schoolyard Heroes. Fronted by Ryann Donnelly, the 18-year old vocal chanteuse who's a little bit Karen O. and a lot Courtney Love, brings their fast-driving punk ballads of interplanetary battles for your listening pleasure. Their music is the soundtrack of any quarter-life crisis: angry, confused and totally nonsensical. Maybe so, but late-teen angst has allowed the young Heroes to share a stage with Pretty Girls Make Graves, the Accused and Vendetta Red. And, last we checked, the guitarist had a seriously cool Afro -- totally not what we'd expect from their punky sound.
The rest of the lineup is a full-blown teen nu-punk-fest, with Seattle's the Divorce headlining. New Love Proposition, the side project of Coretta Scott member Scott Woodward, will open with a played down, sing-along kind of sound. Get there early, and be ready to rock.
