Tyler, The Creator
Goblin

"I´m not a f---ing role model” are the first words we hear from Tyler, the Creator on his sophomore effort, Goblin. And I couldn’t agree more — Goblin is, on the surface, mostly about suicide, rape and arson. So then why is his sluggish, nauseating hip-hop so appealing? For starters, Tyler’s words may be deranged but somehow they never feel forced. It’s hard to think of an artist who seems to have an easier time saying just what he wants to.

The other star of the record is Tyler’s production, combining slow-churning grinds and Italo-horror synths to make a disgusting hip-hop sound unlike any other. Love it or hate it, this is the future of hip-hop.

That being said, Goblin is also lengthy at 1 hours, with songs that go beyond seven minutes and quickly become tiresome. This is probably not his strongest statement, but surely it’s his loudest.
