RECYCLING | The New Rules

Inlander Staff

You may have already gotten yours by now — a big, blue 64-gallon cart of possibility. Spokane launched its new single-stream recycling program Monday, with larger bins and a longer list of items you can recycle.

Gone are the days of just two acceptable plastics and no junk mail, cereal boxes or just about anything else. The city spent $8 million to buy new automated recycling trucks and get the program started and will deliver recyclables to a facility run by the private company Waste Management. City officials say curbside recycling should increase by 50 percent.

It’ll take about six weeks for everyone to get their new cart, but if you’re getting anxious call Solid Waste Management at 625-7878.
