New interpretations of two favorite children's tales are set to delight local kids this holiday season.

The Spokane Children's Theater presents Honk!, a musical based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic, The Ugly Duckling, at the Met. Directed by Kathie Doyle-Lipe, with musical direction by Jeff Batdorf, Honk! tells the story of Ugly, the oversized offspring hatched to unsuspecting duck parents Ida and Drake. Taunted by his siblings and tricked by a conniving feline, poor Ugly ends up lost far from home. Through his arduous journey back, Ugly learns that it's okay to be a little bit different. (Nov. 28-Dec. 1 and Dec. 3-7 at 7 pm, with 2 pm matinees on Nov. 30-Dec. 1; Tickets: $6-$7. 328-4886)

Film favorites Woody and Buzz take to the ice for eight shows as Disney On Ice presents Toy Story 2 at the Arena. Key scenes from the film are translated to the ice; spectacular special effects, like an enormous traffic jam and the landing of a full-scale airplane wheel, help bring the characters to life. The show's choreography promises to lead kids to infinity and beyond! (Dec. 4-7 at 7:30 pm, Dec. 7 at noon and 3:30 pm, and Dec 8 at 1 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets: $12-$35; $10, available Dec. 4 only. (325-SEAT)
