WANDERLUST: Rainy Days at Dan's

Posted by AMY.HUNTER at 10:11 AM on Mon, Apr. 18, 2011

From a pair of trademark scissors lit by neon on the roof, to the original barber chairs on which hundreds of happy customers have sat, Dan’s Barber & Styling Shop on North Monroe is a step back in time.

The shop’s atmosphere is easy-going and decidedly un-hurried. The walls are lined with photos, including one of Dan himself who passed away just days before the shop's 50th anniversary. He was 92.  One barber has been there 44 years, others for decades. One is Dan’s granddaughter, and another is master of the fade.

Service at Dan’s — cuts, shaves or shoeshines — runs in the ballpark of $15 or less. The experience, however, is priceless.

ABOUT WANDERLUST: The photo series is a 60-day visual story-telling project that explores the seemingly ordinary places, people and things we experience everyday. It's about being curious and asking questions. It's about wanting to know more about the world around you and seeing it from fresh perspectives. Great photos Amy, thanks for posting. I especially like the third one from the top. I know where I am going for my next haircut. Apr 25, 2011 | Reply to this comment
