David Condon deserves to be exposed for what he is - a radically conservative political operative looking to firmly imbed DC politics into Spokane´s government. The dollars given to the Inland NW Leadership PAC by more than 80 donors is a pittance compared to the chits he and McMorris Rodgers can bring in (nearly $200k so far!), but at least its something to help ensure voters have all the information and not just what Condon wants them to. Come on now, let´s be a little more honest here about what is and is not a "special interest."
Wealthy business owners and political insiders who write big checks and stand to gain financially from policy changes that their candidate could implement are "special interests." In short they are a small number of people with a lot of weight to throw around.
Everyday people cobbling together relatively small donations to support a candidate they believe has served the common good are not. Joe Schmoe is not going to make bank for re-electing Mary Verner, he will have the satisfaction of knowing his City is being run by a steady, competent and experienced leader.
Now maybe you could say SEIU is a "special interest" but let´s remember whose interests they are representing. SEIU advocates to prevent home health care workers from slipping further into poverty, to preserve a health care system that saves taxpayer money, and to serve some of the most medically vulnerable people among us.
Special interest group or not, it´s clear the majority of the "powers that be" are lining up to buy a piece of Condon. Don Barbieri is a welcome exception to the majority of individuals in his economic bracket - he is like the Warren Buffet of Spokane.
While it is flattering to imagine the INW PAC on the same footing as a funding pipeline that dishes out $1,000 dollars a day, it is hardly reality. With websites like http://condonscash.com/ voters this November will know the difference! Oct 14, 2011 |Reply to this comment
Ha...I wish I had the rounding error of Jim Cowles or Warren Buffit. But simply said, our community needs to stand up for those who make companies successful and quality of life work for our families. Those who make companies successful are the employees who need access at least equal to those with the most dollars. Those with the highest net worth do not have wisdom by wealth, but only by joining with all their neighbors. We need to fight for neighborhood access to decision making and quality of life that will really make our city "Near Nature, Near Perfect". I have lived here all my life and believe our Mayor is a great leader, we should re-elect her and add a new Council President Ben Stuckert whose business and social services are profound ! We should add Joy Jones to the council ...a really smart woman who will make Kendall Yards and the West Central neighborhood succeed as partners. Oct 14, 2011 |Reply to this comment
One of Spokane´s and the 5th Congressional District´s greatest regrets will prove to be NOT electing Don Barbieri to Congress. Oct 15, 2011 |Reply to this comment
