In a possible protest bid, Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has suggested shutting down the government. The option, which she floated to Politico, might be an alternative to holding debt ceiling negotiations hostage (the last time Congress did that, America saw its credit score go down). To wit:
McMoRodg, as we call her, is recognized as one of the party's establishment leaders trying to forge a political direction along with House Speaker John Boehner in what has become an unruly House Republican majority.
So, debt default or government shutdown? It should be noted that as a political stunt, the last shutdown didn't much help Republicans. But it may be the only way to calm the remaining Tea Partiers in the House and make them feel like they're doing right.
