Local Actor Goes Mad -- B.D. Freeman, Spokane's standup comic (aka "Bobby Delirious" at the Brickwall Comedy Club) and actor (at Interplayers in Watch on the Rhine and The Final Twist) has ventured to L.A. and gotten himself hired as a member of the supporting cast on Fox TV's Mad TV.


"I'm doing a [standup] show at the L.A. Connection, the place where guys like Will Ferrell, Matthew Perry and Jon Lovitz came up through the ranks," Freeman says. He was a tad star-struck, though, when introduced to the other Mad TV comedians. "I'm trying to be all cool, but I was screaming inside my head, 'Dude, you rock so hard.' On the outside I'm all cool, but in my head, I'm thinkin' 'I worship you, man, you are my hero.'"


Catch Freeman's first step into the big time on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11 pm on Fox.





Misery Acquaints a Man -- With Strange Bedfellows, what you get is a madcap comedy about the battle of the sexes in turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Bill Marlowe directs a cast of 18, with senators and congressmen facing off against women's suffrage advocates. Marlowe says that "a spectacular Victorian set depicts the Nob Hill mansion of Senator Cromwell," played by Chris LeBlanc. Performances on Nov. 12-16 and Nov. 19-22 at SFCC's Spartan Theater. Lantern Goes Out -- You've got just six weekends left to catch the all-ages improv comedy shenanigans at ComedySportz on Friday and Saturday nights at the Magic Lantern Theater, 123 S. Wall St. In late December, the Lantern space (exclusive of Europa Pizzaria) will be extensively remodeled as high-end retail shops. CSz plans to re-emerge in January in an as-yet-unannounced but familiar downtown location, so they'll be OK. But those of us who remember watching subtitled movies in those cramped Magic Lantern spaces have only till the end of the year to indulge our nostalgia. So it goes.





Props Due -- One of our writers, Marty Demarest, was so excited by the book Blankets (reviewed on page 16) that he had to track down copies to give to friends. We're happy to say that while you can order it, and plenty of other great indie literature, through stores like Borders and Barnes & amp; Noble, you can actually walk in and find it on the shelves at Auntie's. Independent bookstores like Auntie's and Book People of Moscow are the reasons that small-press books like Blankets find readers in the first place, and we're happy to send a big thank-you back at them during times like this!
