Hangouts

Off campus: On the edge of campus, there are a variety of places students go to eat and socialize, such as David's Pizza and Starbucks. Ultimate Bagel and the Mercury Caf & eacute; are also popular. For students over 21 who want an after school refreshment or just need a place to meet their friends, Jack and Dan's and The Bulldog taverns, located on Hamilton, are the places to go. And downtown Spokane is just a short walk along the Centennial Trail.

On campus: The Crosby Student Center is a good place to watch the big-screen television or see a movie, get coffee or buy some Zag memorabilia. In addition, each residence hall has a lounge the students can gather in at night or between classes. Students often study at the Jundt Art Center, the Foley Center, or, in the warmer months, on one of the many grassy spots around campus.

Events

Orientation is Aug. 31-Sept. 9, with events every day. October 13 marks the annual Midnight Madness at the Martin Centre, when the amazing Gonzaga University Bulldog basketball team starts practicing at 12:01 am for another season, which starts with a road game at Illinois. The first home game is against Montana in the Kennel on Nov. 18. The team has been among the 16 best teams in the nation in each of the past three years. The second weekend of December is the university's Christmas Concert at St. Al's.

New in 2001

Because of the high number of new students, including 970 freshman and 218 transfers, many will live in the River Inn near campus. The brand-new Corkery Apartments on Sharp Avenue will also accommodate the growing population. There will be a ceremony on Sept. 3 at 11 am to commission the apartment building.
