The comic book series from a couple of years ago jumps to the screen with both viciousness and hilarity. A high school geek (Aaron Johnson) decides to become a superhero by donning a silly costume and practicing a few martial arts moves. Things don’t go as planned when he’s up against real crime lords instead of street punks. Meanwhile... a loving single dad (Nicolas Cage) has a separate war going on against those bad guys, and his eager daughter (Chloe Moretz) helps. The outrageous film easily flits between being funny, tragic, and action-packed. Very violent, in a comic book kinda way.(ES)
