Opening Films

by INLANDER STAFF & r & & r & FOOL'S GOLD & r & & r & Fool's Gold finds Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson as divorcing spouses, formerly a team of treasure hunters. Now he's made a new discovery in their longtime search for a lost 18th-century hoard of gold and jewelry and he needs her help to find it, even though she's just divorced him and whacked him across the head with a blunt object. Not one single element works. Not one single element seems even calculated to have worked in the first place. Every single wrongheaded element ends up working together only in an apparent attempt to force you to claw your own eyes out, and perhaps pop your own eardrums, so that the torture of experiencing it will end. (MJ) Rated PG-13

VINCE VAUGHN'S WILD WEST COMEDY SHOW

A couple of years ago, Vince Vaughn, movie star and uber Guy, took four handpicked, up-and-coming Los Angeles stand-up comics on a marathon road trip. As the title suggests, they did 30 shows in 30 consecutive nights. It's good to be reminded that the people who entertain us are people, too, and Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the Heartland does that with a sharp poignancy that I was so completely not expecting from it. (MJ) Rated R

WELCOME HOME ROSCOE JENKINS

Martin Lawrence stars alongside a host of other mediocre actors and James Earl Jones in this story of a talk show host returning home to show off his famous fianc & eacute;s. Black ensemble comedy ensues. (LB) Rated PG-13

YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH

Francis Ford Coppola's first film in nearly a decade is the story of an aging Romanian linguistics professor who is struck by lightning, returning to him his youth. He then discovers what it means to love like a young man again, all whilst being chased by Nazis. (LB) Rated R
