A Tribe Called Death & r & Producer/MC Jay Dee (J Dilla) succumbed Monday to a rare blood disorder. He was 32. Dilla made his mark on A Tribe Called Quest's production team, and had cut beats for everyone from Common to Pharcyde to D'Angelo. Pharrell once callled him his favorite producer. Dilla's final album, Donuts, dropped last Tuesday and, according to pitchfork, was partially recorded in the hospital. He had recently finished production work with Madlib, Ghostface Killah and MF Doom, so even though he's gone, his beats remain.

Brokeback Bandwagon & r & Fresh off contributing a hauntingly gorgeous take on Dylan's "He Was a Friend of Mine" for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, Willie Nelson has recorded Ned Sublette's ode to gay rangeriders "Cowboys are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other)." The song includes the following lines:

Now I believe to my soul that inside every man there's the feminine / And inside every lady there's a deep manly voice loud and clear / Well a cowboy may brag about things that he does with his women / But the ones that brag loudest are the ones that are most likely queer.

Sublette originally tried to get the song included in the Brokeback soundtrack, but says, "the word I got was that it was too funny for a tear-jerkin' movie."
