Posted on Tue, Oct 5, 2010 at 7:32 AM

Nobody had to wear pink. A crowd of 800 ponied up $45 each to hear Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the Toughest Sheriff in America (under federal investigation), speak at the Coeur d'Alene Resort for a Republican fundraiser. (CdA Press)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch ... Maricopa County (Arizona) budget officials say Sheriff Arpaio has misspent $50 million in taxpayer dollars. (KPHO)

Free speech or hate speech? The Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas, infamous for protesting at soldier funerals, plans a two-day swing through Spokane and Coeur d'Alene Oct. 21-22. (KXLY)

False prophets and dissolute youth.  Go to the church website to see where they will protest and why. Best gird your loins, Moody Bible Institute. (WARNING: some vicious language.)

Return of debtor's prison. Newport woman finds herself in jail over unpaid bills from four years ago. (Crosscut via NW Public Radio)
