MORNING HEADLINES: Unemployment, Republicans and smoky airplanes

Posted on Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 9:22 AM

Good thing you don't need money during the holidays — With emergency federal unemployment benefits set to expire, thousands in Washington could find themselves without unemployment benefits. (Spokesman)

The slightly less reddening — Idaho loses title as America's reddest state; oddly, the state's collective blush does nothing to help its case. (KREM)

At least the in-flight meals will be cooked fresh — Boeing's much-heralded 787 Dreamliner was forced to make an emergency landing in Texas during test flights. Turns out some of the electronics caught on fire, which apparently is a problem when you're driving a 350,000-plus pound contraption several thousand feet above the ground. (Seattle Times)

Because the problem is everyone thinks smoking is safe — The FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services hopes that putting gross/disturbing pictures (corpses, cancer patients) on cigarette packs will deter smokers. (KXLY)

Oh look, the weatherman was wrong. That's different — Snowpocalypse averted … for now. (Spokesman)
