After a decade of ruling its own destiny, Spokane Valley plans to celebrate 10 years of city-ness — incorporation or whatever you call it — this weekend.
They grow up so fast.
Spokane Valley Mayor Thomas Towey (that's right, they have a mayor) issued a proclamation earlier this year marking the anniversary and praising its citizens.
"Spokane Valley is a community of opportunity where individuals and families can grow and play, and businesses will flourish and prosper," he writes.
City officials are hosting a "birthday party" and carnival from 10 am to 3 pm Saturday at CenterPlace Regional Event Center on Discovery Place. Food vendors, children's activities and a craft fair will be set up.
Mayor Towey will make opening remarks before the festivities begin. City officials promise free birthday cake and cupcakes.
