Some Like It Hot

If, like us, you're still humming Hamilton's catchy tunes, then get excited for the next hit-filled season of Spokane's Best of Broadway series. Five shows coming to the Lilac City as part of the series' 2025-26 season were announced this Tuesday, united by a common theme: All are adapted from films.

Starting off the season is the 1920s-set comedy Some Like It Hot (Sept. 23-28). The four-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy is based on the 1959 film of the same name starring Marilyn Monroe about a pair of male musicians who witness a mob murder and must disguise themselves as women in order to escape the gangsters' retribution.

If you love that early 20th century glitz and glamour, the next show on the lineup is for you, too: Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Nov. 19-23). Winner of 10 Tonys, including Best Musical, the jukebox musical is based on Baz Luhrmann's beloved 2001 film centered around a composer who falls in love with cabaret starlet Satine, a performer at the titular Moulin Rouge.

Then, starting off 2026 strong is an all-ages favorite, when Disney's The Lion King (Jan. 28-Feb. 15) returns to the First Interstate Center for the Arts' stage (it was last here in 2019). Featuring spectacular puppetry and costuming, and an iconic score by Elton John and Tim Rice, The Lion King has a stack of six Tony Awards.

Finally, two stories based on contemporary cinematic counterparts head our way in the spring: The Notebook: The Musical (March 17-22) and Back to the Future: The Musical (May 26-31). The Notebook adapts the beloved historical drama based on Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel of the same name from screen to stage, featuring music by Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter (NBC's This is Us). For something a little more lighthearted in tone, Back to the Future boasts the time-traveling adventures of young Marty McFly and quirky scientist Doc Brown. It won a 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

More special engagements will also be announced as the 2025-26 season approaches. New for the upcoming season is the addition of Saturday matinee shows for Best of Broadway season ticket holders. Those packages are also already on sale; get all the details at broadwayspokane.com.
