Apparently mixing the minds and skills of Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones), Queens of the Stone Age (Josh Homme) and the Foo Fighters and Nirvana (Dave Grohl) creates some awesome rock ‘n’ roll. Whoever would have guessed?

THEM CROOKED VULTURES
Them Crooked Vultures  ****

Them Crooked Vultures, the trio’s new super-group, brings a blend of blues rock that feels completely modernized. While Homme wails in typical QotSA style, it’s the rhythm section that really shines. Jones hasn’t lost a step on the bass and, lest you forget, Grohl seems out to remind everyone just how good his drumming is.

The album has a cavalier attitude — as if the trio just happened to bump into one other and, after a couple of drinks, thought, “Hey, let’s throw together an entire album in a weekend.” It feels like it’s just that easy for them.
